Time for new water pump ?
Hello all ,
My f10 have been done 170k miles, I noticed an issue during highways or driving on a constant speed for a while, my temp. Gauge seems to move slightly to the right (high temp side), no codes no overheating messages, But if I press down the gas pedal more the temp increases immediately back to the middle (the normal condition) for a certain time My diagnosis : I connected OBD and open the bimmerlink and i observed the following : 1- if the outside temp. Is 99.5 f or more, temp. stays at its normal 2- while monitoring the temperature I noticed that it reached 250 which is higher than the normal ( aprox. 206) 3- I’ve observed the water pump rpm , which was controlling all these things , if the outside temp is high or if I’m pushing the gas pedal down WP rpm is around 250 - 180 , otherwise it’s around 99-36. 4- it never happens during city driving because of the stop and go traffic Thermostat and coolant both new and oem , never replaced WP What I’m thinking that maybe my wp is becoming weaker that it can’t maintain a decent rpm during its normal operation, i know these electrical water pumps have a lot of factors controlling its rpm speed Before wasting money and time on a wp replacement does anyone have any advice or suggestions? Thanks all. |

Has the pump been replaced before? Before you owned it? did you buy it used? Should you decide to replace it, and there is nothing at all wrong with replacing it especially if you have not before, impressively that's a lot of miles! I would also check all your rubber hoses for your coolant lines and radiator, even intercooler, make sure they are in good condition, and all your front mounted items are clear and clean and not clogged full of debris and dust, you want to keep your entire cooling system optimal, especially in your environment! We don't get very extreme heat here in the Great Basin, however we get below freezing temperatures and in the summer, we get hot and dry and we do get dust storms from time to time.

Are you familiar with checking voltages? you can also check your sensors, and be sure to clean your front end of any bugs, dust, that can clog up the exterior of intercooler/Radiator as well.

I replaced mine long time ago and solved tha issue, usually replace termostat and water pump at the same time, don’t buy it from eBay cuz they won’t work at least in my case had to do that job 2 times cuz I was being cheap xD
