Spacers?

Hey

I am lowering the 550i on H&R springs and I am wondering if I should run spacers? At least in the front?

If so what size would you recommend?

Here are my wheel sizes and offsets.

Front
20x9 et35
245/30/20

Rear
20x10 et35
285 /30/ 20

Yes, you can have spacers all around if you want. My summer setup is Vorsteiner VS-310 20X8.5 ET20 and 20X10 ET28 with 245-285 Michelin PSS tires and it sits very flush (pics before lowering):

This setup is equal to 20X9 ET26 and 20X10 ET28, therefore it is clear that you can run 8 mm front (with 245) and 8 or 10 mm rear (with 275).

I would also recommend you to make the very simple measurements on your wheels: http://www.turnermotorsport.com/t-te...l-spacers.aspx. In fact, the F10 fenders and axis are standard, but the different aftermarket wheels and tires of the same specs can introduce minor shape deviations depending on their design and size.

My bad, my rear tires are 285, I updated my first post

Thanks for the info. Sounds like 8 mm for the front might look nice.

After i get the springs on I will measure to be safe.

OK so have 5 mm for the rears, and it will be fine ) Please don't forget to get the lug bolts extended to the same added length: there is not that much of bolt thread effectively used. The extended bolts normally offered together with the spacers. And: measurements never hurt!

I too, am running 15mm up front and 20mm in the rear on my OEM 19's; H&Rs too (the Sport Springs version).
Very aggressive, but I love'em that way.

Absolutely. The X Drive system can't tell the difference. It can only detect diameter differences.

Question. Are spacers irrelevant from the shock and struts? By saying that I can get any brands of spacers as long as they fit with the requirement of F10?

Thanks!

Absolutely. Spacer is nothing but an artificial extension of a wheel hub made to move the wheel outwards. Using spacer is even good because gives the wheel a bit more space by moving away from the suspension elements (shocks and struts). But not to make the spacer too thick because the tire will start rubbing the fender.

Got it Valbm. That's a good information. And finally, will I have the option to install lowering springs in the future, if I just get a moderate length spacer, say 15mm?

Yes you will. Like most of the members here who have already done lowering + larger wheels + spacers for flush and aesthetic look.

The thing is, the spacers should come the last, and measured together with the wheels. Depending on a specific tire brand and square/stretched tire shoulder shape, you can afford different offsets/spacers.

As for the spacer technology, the lightest ones are the best, for example RS Technik. Also they must have the extended lug bolts (normally sold together).
