Alpina Classic wheel discussion
To those of you out there who know something about Alpina wheels, can someone shed some light on whether the 10" wide Classic C11 from the B6 (BMW part # 36107990656) fits fine in the rear of a F10 with a 295-section tire? The rear wheel meant for the F10 B5 (BMW part # 36107987079) is only 9.5" and most tire manufacturers recommend going only as wide as 285 on that width.
Additionally, the aforementioned 10" rim from the B6 has an offset of 51mm, which would bring a 295-section inner sidewall 43mm closer to the suspension by my calculation. I don't have the ability to verify myself at the moment, but I somehow doubt there is enough room in there to accommodate this (and I'm not sure a spacer would remedy that). According to the following sites, at least one B6 came with a 10" wide rear rim with a more suitable offset of 40mm --> https://www.wheel-size.com/size/bmw-alpina/b6/2015/ and https://tirewheelguide.com/sizes/bmw-alpina/b6/2015/ . I've reached out to Alpina to shed more light on all of this, but sadly, they've been less than helpful. I've done as much research as I can on these Classic wheels and have put it all into the attached table to spare anyone else who wants to evaluate all the wheel size/width/offset options. I'm hopeful someone here can help fill in the blanks, but mainly, help me figure out a 10" wide option that will fit the rear of my F10. TIA |

I spent a bit of time googling and looking up specs. When I starting writing this I honestly didn't think they'd work but right near the end I found the B5 Edition 50 brochure which shows it will work.
One thing to be aware of is that the rear suspension of the F06/12/13 is quite a bit wider than the F10/11 with a wider body as well. The hub faces on the F06/12/13 are 1725mm apart, on an F10/11 it is 1687mm. For both cars the wheels are the same: The 17" and 18" wheel options are 8" wide with a 30mm offset. When BMW went up to 19" or 20" they went to 8.5" wide with a 33mm offset. Then if you had staggered rears whether 18", 19" or 20" the rear was always a 9" with a 44mm offset. The Alpina B5 and B6 pre-LCI had the same offsets but the rear wheels were 9.5" wide which would allow you to run a 285mm tyre, whereas the 9" that came on the BMW cars only allows up to 275mm. This is the point I was about to say the B6 LCI came with 10" and I can't find any specs for the B5 10" but then I did. It seems like B5 and B6 LCIs were available with the 10" 51mm offset wheels as if you do a search for B5 1585mm you'll find this - a horrible website and I'm not sure if downloading it is safe, but you can zoom in and find the 295/30r20 wheel with a 1585mm track https://dokumen.tips/automotive/2016...e.html?page=14 If it was a simple copy paste mix-up I wouldn't think that they would get that rear track right, they'd show the 1599mm track that a 44mm rear offset would give you - you can't just make up the 1585mm measurement! Lastly, why not get the F01 spec 8.5" 25mm and 10" 41mm offset wheels? I don't know if I've seen an F01 Alpina wheel set on an F10/11 but there are a few pics of people running 303m wheels which are the same dimensions as the Alpina wheels. I think they'll fit better in the arches.

I’ve got 20x11 et46 with 295/30 tires in the rear of my f10, and there’s plenty of space on the inside towards the suspension.

Great Thread..and opportunity to talk Alpina wheels..
First off..if you are hesitant but have already purchased the 10" wide Alpina B6 wheels, I'll be happy to switch with you as I have an extra set of rear 9.5" B6 Alpina C13s. I've been running 295 PS4S (thanks to xPaniPurix) on 9.5" B6 Alpina wheels on my F10 and they don't look too out of place and perform just fine. I have been wanting to get the 10" wide ones as they have an even more concave look but haven't found a deal on those...yet. The 2015 B6 came with 9.5" wide wheels but with 2016 MY and the power bump to 600hp, they switched to 10" wide but both fit the B6. I am pretty sure they will fit the B5 as well and am more than happy to be a test mule The F01 wheels are 21" and they have been successfully installed on F10s with thinner profile tires of course..but that has been done. |

Hi, Brad. First off, many thanks for doing the digging you did. I didn't think of pulling up the brochure from when it was on sale and looking at the rear track like that, but doing so now and then doing the math [1599 - (51-44)*2] makes sense to me enough that I'm comfortable placing an order for those 10" rims. The only thing I don't understand is that if the distance between the rear hubs on a F10 is 1687mm, how can the rear track be 1585mm? Just thinking about it logically, shouldn't the rear track be wider than the hub distance? Regarding your question about the F01 Alpina wheels, I've decided not to use them because, while being a more appropriate offset, they're 21 inchers. Given these wheels are cast, I'm not interested in almost certainly bending one or more on Ontario roads every spring. Moreover, I'd like some additional sidewall to minimize how stiff the ride will be on these Alpinas. |

Perfect. Thanks for chiming in. BTW, how much of a drop do you have on your V3s? I'll be lowering it in the future with some ACS springs, so curious if you have any rubbing issues as a result of using those rims and being lowered.

Pretty much a no gap drop, probably 40-50mm, but no rubbing.

Also, outside of a BMW dealership's parts department, where would you be able to purchase these wheels and all the necessary components (without fear of getting replicas)? Sounds like you've managed to find them at discounted prices. Where would that be? |

Remember the higher offset figure is moving the centre of the wheel closer to the car which is the track measurement, not the outer edge of the wheel. If you look at the different stock options for staggered and non-staggered, you'll see that the offset goes from 30mm with 245mm tyres to 44mm with 275mm tyres. The track reduces by 14mm, but as the tyre is 30mm wider, it sticks out 1mm further in the arch, 15mm each side Similarly, the Alpina ones go in another 7mm with their 51mm offset, but then as the tyre is 20mm wider, the tyre edge is 3mm further out.

I bought the first set from a local guy in Southern CA. The second I put together by buying rears from a recycler and the fronts off of ebay. I actually have been thinking of putting one of the B6 full setup with center caps for sale since I need the space. |
