Newbie - Greetings & Question with iDrive (Pics Included)
Hi All,
Thanks for accepting me into the forum. Today I got my first 5 Series GT. Its a 2010 plate SE and has a ton of spec on it including side cameras, comfort access, navigation etc. I have to say this is one of the comfiest cars I have ever owned and runs like a dream considering it has 80k miles on it. Only cons about the car I purchased. 3 of the Comfort Access door handles don't work or light up and 3 of the LED door sills don't light up. Here are some pics of her; I have a quick question around the iDrive system. I was just wondering if it would be possible to update the system or the cars software in general just to make sure its on the most unto date version. When I enter my VIN on the BMW update site it doesn't appear to show me any updates. Plus within my iDrive screen I don't seem to have a Software Upgrade option unlike my 16 plate vehicle. Also any cools things I can do on my car? Any recommendations? Sorry for all the questions, I'm really excited!! Last edited by ryry2017; 04-20-2017 at 03:01 PM.. Welcome to the forum!
The LED's appear to malfunction for a number of reasons. Possibly because they get stepped on (really) or they burn out. Here is a solution worth looking at. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...37&postcount=1 Here is some info on the doors. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=671690 Looks like either a cable problem or a complete replacement. I would spend the money on a replacement as I love the option. The light and not opening suggest the unit has failed. Also have a 2010 model and mine also doesn't have an upgrade available. Asked at my dealer when it got serviced last December and the answer was, there wan't a need for a software upgrade. Practical upgrades: Update the satnav maps as they are now a few years old. Have a search for recoding options such as adding indicators on the HUD and either get someone to program them for you or have a go yourself. What fits on F10 5 Series will often fit on the F07. They share a lot of similar bits and it can be cheaper buying the F10 parts. There are not a huge amount of performance options aside from a remap which your diesel would really benefit from. Brakes are awesome, suspension very capable as it is. Lowering may be an option. What tyres do you have? There have been horror stories about the UK choice of Goodyear Excellence experiencing premature wear. Your 20" will love Pirelli P Zero's instead (as a summer tyre). Can't help with a winter suggestion as our version of winter is a bit different to yours. BMW Car magazine covered the F07 so that may be a good bit of background to look at. Forget which edition but it was early this year around March or April. Will Check. Otherwise, drive and enjoy! Cheers, Geoff Hoad Sydney, Australia |
