Replaced Center Console Insert

I didn't like the small cramped console (with the phone insert) so I replaced it with part # 51169277267. There is a lot more space in there now.

Looks sweet but it is still not big enough. How much was the part, and how hard was it to replace?

Good job on the install. Things disappear under the iPhone adapter, and it is a pita to find them from the driver's seat. I must look into what you did. Thanks for posting the info.

UPDATE: I looked up the part number that was supplied, it is avail for $72 from ECS.

The same depth as before, it is now the full width basically removing the phone molding/insert.

Fletch,

What did you do with the Trunk Lock/Unlock switch? I do not see it mounted on your new console.

I'm also curious about the trunk lock switch.

I did this same thing on my 2012 535i. I did not feel confident enough about doing a professional cut in the new tray for that switch so, as I had never used it, I just left it all alone underneath the new tray.

I just ordered the tray. Need the space.

I just pulled out the switch. There is a rectangle cutout.

My approach would be to cut liner with a razor, and Dremel cut the plastic below.

Also known as the "Valet Switch." Many other vehicles have this in their glove box.

I did the same, the wire is fed underneath the rubber mat and the switch is in my console if I need to connect it to use it. Eventually I will use a dremel and mount it in the original spot.

Hi Fletch. It appears that the switch cutout (ends only) is marked on the underside with 2 tabs. It is present in our original tray and this new replacement option. I've circled the tabs in the picture below...

So, all that needs to be done is to mark 2 straight lines. We have our template!

UPDATE - 3/11/19: Spoke with my dealership contact. The part is on backorder, 5-10 days.

...

UPDATE:

Yesterday, received the tray. Today, installed. Part was $62, plus tax.

Out of the box.

Used Dremel to make a cutout for valet switch. Spent approx. 1 hour. Use a small file to square off the corners. Take your time!

Done!

IMPORTANT:

With a Dremel, there are limitations. At the corners, I recommend using a file.
