Mine came off a 750i, since 750i's only come with 374x36 rotors. The calipers are the same, just that M sport ones are painted black while non-M sport are bare metal. Only "mod" you need is a 5mm spacer for the mounting bolts, other than that they're plug and play. Get pads off a G series car, everything else needs to be from a F series. Rotors from a 760li (374mm with a smaller hat) if you don't want to trim the pads.

P/N: 34116872575 34116872576 (non-M sport)

P/N: 34116872577 34116872578 (M sport)

Finally got around to do the full setup of X5 M fronts and m5 rears. The rears are stock m5 caliper and bracket without any adapters. The discs are 370mm from the rear of the F01/F07 without any modifications. The fronts did NOT clear my stock alpina wheels so I added a 3mm spacer which seems to have done the trick. Super close though..

(As mentioned by others who've done this before me, I had to get the 4mm spacers which I have listed the part number in a previous post)

No cutting or modification of any kind was needed, all 4 corners bolted right up. Had the calipers painted black and using EBC yellows(expecting some serious brake dust but the bite on the yellows is really good)

Will post better/cleaner pictures once everything is put back together

I can confirm 18" will not fit.

I tried.

Actually my bad, I should have known, the Alpina B7 which runs the 374mm(older gen) setup has 19 winter wheels. So I would think 19 is the smallest you could go. G30 calipers are wider too so offset will be a challenge

I was afraid about it. Thanks for info. So idk what i have to do, wear 374mm disc with single pot caliper or 348mm disc with 4 pots calipers. I’m afraid about overhearing 348

Brake fade issues are pretty rare in these modern cars in all but the most extreme of circumstances. 348 will be fine. Get the G30 small 4 pots, they look a lot nicer than the stock calipers and make pad changes less annoying.

Spoke clearance might still be a bit iffy with the G30 calipers, but nothing spacers can't fix.

When going for the rear F10 M5 calipers+carriers coupled with F01 370mm rear discs, what parts are required for the following?:

-Brake hoses
-Brake pad wear sensor
-Brake dust shield/protection plate

I’m just wondering if they need to be F10 M5 parts, regular F10 parts or F01 parts. Sorry if this has already been asked before.

MTIA
-Brake hose re-used
-Same pad wear sensor as all other F10s.
-No mods at all on dust shield/protection plate. (Except just make sure the edges of your current shields aren't bent badly to hit the rotor. If your shields are in good shape, then nothing else is required)

ONE thing to keep in mind, you should be able to swap out the small bracket that is attached to the EMF module, that holds the EMF wire AND the Pad Sensor wire, over to the M5 caliper easily.

ONLY for those who want to go the extra mile:
IF you plan to use the M5 Brake Hoses, they ARE different than regular F10 hoses as in they have a banjo bolt instead of screw in style ends. If you end up using that, then you cannot swap the EMF bracket over, you'll have to stick with the M5 EMF bracket but then your EMF sensor wire will not be able to be fitted onto it since I believe on the M5 the orientation of the protective cover on that harness is 180 flipped

Thanks Addy, great to know. I’m just planning ahead, as I’ve been liaising with Bozman and aim to upgrade the fronts soon, so it’s good to have options in mind for rears.

Re the protection plate, I assumed that the bigger disc (370mm) would warrant using a bigger plate. So just to confirm, if someone like me was contemplating the mod on a 520D (with measly 330mm discs) the current protection plate would suffice?

Thanks again!

I've found that the protection plates can get really rusty and then start rattling. Unless yours are in immaculate condition, I'd recommend replacing them anyway while you're there. In an awesome BMW design move, you can’t just take the rear protection plates off easily like the fronts. In addition to four bolts, you are also expected to disassemble the hub/axle assembly. It’s like a 4 hour job at least. Instead I just cut half the plate and bent it around onto the hub with everything intact. It’s completely fine.

From memory, I have either my standard 530d protection plate or the 550 one, but either way it’s pretty big. You’d still have some of it poking out even with 370mm rotors.

Hello Bozman! Hope you’re keeping well and thanks for your input here.

So it’s possible to install the new protection plate (if required), in the same fashion you described I.e, without taking off the hub assembly? I’m just trying to envisage it, I’m guessing due to the plate’s ‘C’ shape, this makes it feasible as a workaround?

The front shield is a "C" shape that slides behind the hub perfectly. The rear one has a closed off square opening that you would assume would fit over the hub, but it ever so slightly does not, hence why everything has to be taken apart to install it . . . at least per the BMW manual. You can see what I mean on RealOEM: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=34_1824

I just cut through that small section of the internal square of the protection plate in the top right corner and bent it around the hub. Once you bolt it on, it doesn't move at all, so the fact that you cut it is irrelevant and saves you a TON of time and effort.

I've seen some pretty stupid designs flaws on these BMW's but this one is very much the dumbest one I've ever come across for a part that will unquestionably need to be replaced due to corrosion.

Thanks as ever Bozman, I think I can envisage what you mean there, seems a good 'quick and dirty fix'.

I'm just thinking, if I were to get an independent BMW specialist garage to do the work, they may frown upon literally cutting corners excuse the pun! They probably wouldn't mind the labour intensive route neither! ££

In which case, is it an option to just utilise the existing 520D protection plate currently in situ, or does its smaller size mean it's not fit for purpose when coupled with the larger F01 disc?

Looking at the M5 rear setup, the protection plate is hardly noticeable i.e. it protrudes behind the disc, far less than the protection plate does on the 520D, which makes me wonder if I can just use what I got.

The easiest way to determine this would be to just measure the diameter of the current protection plate you have. If it's larger than the rotor diameter, then you'll have some sticking out. However, these plates do rust like crazy from what I've seen, so your plate may need to be replaced regardless.

I'm sure an indy BMW garage would not do the full BMW protocol to change plates. I'd have to imaging this would be a time in which they'd do the same thing I did, or perhaps have some other trick to getting them on.

The 760li uses the same front protection plate as almost the F10's, I think save for the 518's, so yes, you can just not change them. As for rears, the 550i has the same protection plate as the other F10's, so the 345 rear rotors will fit your original plate protection plate as well.

I personally haven't noticed any really bad rusting, but the UK might be different.

Good shout Bozman, will try get a tape measure past the wheels and obtain the size. Thankfully, my protection plates are in good condition and not rusted, as I had them painted silver for both aesthetics and rust protection, last year.

I'll give the Indy the benefit of the doubt re fitting in that case!

I'll be in touch in due course re those fronts.

Hi Unspec. Just to be clear, the rear rotor upgrade in question, is to go from 330mm (current) to 370mm (F01), as opposed to 345mm rear rotors.

Why would you need such large rear brakes? It seems way overkill for a 520D, and you might actually be increasing your stopping distance due to the unnecessary weight

There's no hiding the truth; there's no performance benefit from undertaking such a mod and it's complete overkill, as Bozman mentioned in his thread, it's purely for aesthetic gains.

The design of the 520D brakes differ significantly from the 530/535/550, not only are they small, but they’re also visually completely different. It does the car (of this size), zero justice.

I should add, the standard brake setup doesn't look so bad with smaller wheels e.g 18inch, as there's little distance between the rotors and the wheel circumference, but when running 20s, they just look out of place.
