N55 535i JB4 Install Help: Routing ODB

After struggling for an hour, decided I need help on this.

I think I've figured out where the grommet is that you feed the ODB cable from the interior to the engine bay, but where the hell do you feed it in from the interior? Instructions say two 10mm bolts, but mine had 4 torx screws that removed the trim under the steering wheel. After flashing a light from the grommet area, still can't see a light or anything. There's too much going down there to guess.

Take a hanger and straighten it out than push it through the outside gormmet area and see where it is coming from in

Thanks I just tried that. Now can actually see it's coming from somewhere, but damn it's behind like some really big things. How are you supposed to get it in there without having direct sight on it? thx

You gotta wrap the wire on the hanger and push it through from inside, do it slow, sorta poke it slowly and you will find your opening. Sounds dirty lol, but there are bunch of wires in your way so try to move the wire to the side by slowly pushing it away.

Sorry, ilI cant doing a pic from inside but this is from outside.

I see. So poke around blindly until you can feel it right? There's no way to get a clear view of it.

When you push the hanger from outside and saw it coming from inside, at that point from.inside use you hand to find the place where the hanger is coming from and use that as your estimate point of entry.

If you already have the hanger in the hole then secure the wire to it and pull it through

Thanks guys! that's what I did and ended up getting it.

Now I've got this crazy code with drivetrain malfunction. Beginning to think this JB4 isn't worth all the hassle. Car sounded like it was going to shut off after turning on.

How do we figure out the anti-spam question on N54tech? Tried every combination of "What is the most popular BMW turbo tuning system?" It's almost like they want to make it extremely tough to join the forum.

What map are to you running? Miles on car and when did you change spark plugs? What mods on your car? What type of fuel?

To be honest.. sell JB4 and get MHD or BM3, unless you want JB4 for meth or PI.

Yeah I think I made a mistake now lol. Should've went BM3 and save all this time troubleshooting.

53k miles just changed plugs. No other mods running 91. Never got an error code on the car since first day of ownership, so its likely Jb4 related.

Seems like maf sensor isnt connected correctly. Make sure it is tight, also what map are you running? You can only run map 1 or map 5 with that setup.

My experience with jb4 hasnt been good either. Power delivery is not smooth at all and I used to get the malfunction until I changed sparkplugs. Though, sometimes if I WOT and change gear around 4k rpm I get malfunctiom still. Seems like JB4 couldnt read my shifts in time and over boosted or something.

Also, as far logging goes, I got USB so it is painful to log in winter with window crack open. If I buy bluetooth and the app, for that much I might aswell just sell JB4 and get MHD + Custom Flash tune and be able to read logs via OBDII.

Haha yeah good point. I got a good deal on the JB4 plus Bluetooth.. but not good enough to have to deal with all these problems. I’ll check the MAP, thanks for the help!

I extended the wire on the BT transmitter and ran it into the cabin behind the iDrive.
