Diagnostic decoding help needed
Hopefully someone here may be able to provide some insight.
I have a 2011 550i xDrive with 90K miles on it now. I was having strange misfire issues on cylinder 8 that were due to a bad spark plug. I replaced the plugs and all was good for about 1 day when I went to give the car some gas to change lanes and boost did not kick in. I started smashing the accelerator pedal with little to no response, it drove as if it were an NA car. Also, there was no CEL at all during this time. I pulled over to scan the car with the Carly app and noticed that I had a rough idle, almost felt like it was going to misfire, but did not set off the CEL. The scan report came back with the following 3 fault codes and 3 info codes: Fault Code: 102001 Fault Explanation: Air mass plausibility: air mass too high Fault Code: 101F01 Fault Explanation: Throttle angle - intake manifold pressure, correlation: limit exceeded Fault Code: 107001 Fault Explanation: Limit Exceeded: intake manifold pressure 2, correlation - throttle angle INFO CODES: Code: INFO CDB004 Explanation: 0xCDB004 FA CAN message (data transmission path, 0x1AF): missing Code: INFO CDB104 Explanation: 0xCDB104 FA-CAN, message (request torque crankshaft gear, 0xB0): absent Code: INFO CDA604 Explanation: 0xCDA604 FA-CAN, message (request torque crankshaft gear 2, 0xA0): absent My gut is telling me this is a timing chain issue (b/c of the crankshaft info codes + the imap fault codes) but I am praying for an easier solution. Could it just be that my adaptations need resetting? or my crankshaft sensor needs to be replaced? BTW, after clearing the codes they were gone for the rest of the day without drivability issues, but popped up again the next morning. If anyone has any thoughts, I would really appreciate the help. Thanks, Rob |

Has nothing to do with your timing chains. Don't worry about the "info" codes right now.
A code reader is often of little use, bordering on dangerous if its not taken in context by an experienced technician. I'd recommend thoroughly inspecting for a vacuum leak on the crankcase ventilation system, and wastegate control post EPDW. If nothing is found I'd then recommend dropping it off at a trusted independent with ISTA at their disposal and awaiting an accurate diagnosis. |

INPA is for older E chassis cars, altogether outdated and irrelevant to working on late model F and G cars.
You want ISTA/D for current and late model BMWs |

I was getting similar error codes with my jb4 plugged in and old spark plugs. I installed brand new sparkplugs, original bmw plugs, and my issues completely went away. No more drive malfunction errors.
I believe from the part description I read on original bmw spark plugs they are better gapped then aftermarket plugs like ngk. Plus bmw plugs are iridium and I am not sure about ngk ones. |
