Today was air filter day! The engine air filter is quick and easy, but cabin air filter took a bit of work. Not as bad as on our Mazda3 (those are miserable!) but more of a hassle than on our E90! Hengst aftermarket filter definitely flimsier than the BMW/Mahle (original?) cabin filter I took out.

Driver's side door pull/handle swap out. Pretty easy job. The ebay replacements look and feel fine, but bolt holes weren't 100% lined up. Took a little massaging to get just right, but in the end a huge improvement over the nasty disintegrating one!

I paid a professional to change the transmission fluid and filter/pan! Not the hardest job, but hard enough that I figured I'd help cover their salary today!

Honestly probably worth it. Yes not the hardest job, but without a real lift, you're lying on your back for 2 hours with sore a** arms and fluid dripping down all over you. Can truthfully say it was "the" job I hated doing on my car.

Swapped out the hideous chrome grills with the gloss-black dual slats, removed the front license plate and bracket, plugged the 4(!) holes left behind and debadged the rear...oh and threw in a bottle of Liqui Moly Jectron at fuel fill-up today. Finally got it looking to where I want it. I'm thinking I'm going to smoke vinyl overlay the fogs next.

When I took the 5er in for "intake clatter," the indy suggested accessory belt & tensioner be changed out. I don't have any record of P.O. doing that, so today was the day! $500 for them to do it, or $130 in parts and I do it. And what an easy job! I was worried about clearances and thought I might have to pull all the trim and fan, but easy fitment. I couldn't quite nail down a definitive torque amount for the bolt, but averaged everything I could find and settled on 25Nm+90^. Didn't break, so that's good! This was my redemption for paying to get the transmission serviced last week!
![]() Also tried fitting on some ebay pedal inserts. The accelerator and brake were fine, but the dead pedal was for a RHD vehicle, or just poorly designed. Definitely isn't going to work. You can kind of see the outside lip on the wrong side here: ![]() And finally, buffed out as much as I could of last week's parking lot hit and run. Sucks. ![]() Last edited by StradaRedlands; 03-21-2022 at 02:00 AM.. |

Upgraded Grille.
Changed the front Grille. Grey & black works so well.
What're your thoughts on changing the grey wing mirror covers for black flare tip ones? Thanks! 😃

OLED taillights and Air Filters. Last weekend I swapped out my RacingDynamics DP's (garbage) for Heatsync DP's. The next few days will be LPFP. Finally some warm enough weather for all this stuff to happen

Updated the old CIC screen with a touch screen 10.5", pretty nice update for the interior. Just need the steering wheel and time for paint.

Actually, yesterday. I replaced the cabin filters in our 2014. That was the hardest, easiest job I think I've done! Gaining access was the hardest part. Interestingly, the filters were installed backwards! I'm pretty sure they were never changed as we bought the car with ~25K miles on the clock and we're now at 77K miles. From what I've read, it is very, very common to have the filters installed backwards.

The best part of being part of a community is the ability to help one another out.
This weekend I was able to do a full detail on a good friend and forum members F10. (Addy27) Also, his new custom plate came in so it was a nice touch to put that on after finishing! The car had light swirling and other light scratches all around.. The process was as follows. The car came to be already washed. Clay Barred the entire car Washed the car with CarPro Iron X Decon Soap in my foam cannon, and scrubbed down the paint with a clay mitt. Rinsed and Foamed again, and rinsed thoroughly. First pass with medium cutting foam pad and Griot's Garage Compound Second pass with Jeffs Werkstatt Prime Polish, with foam polishing pad Third pass with Jeffs Werkstatt Prime Acrylic Sealant, with foam finishing pad Then another wash with CarPro Reset in the Foam Cannon Finished off with a wipe down of the entire car using Griot's Garage Spray Wax... This Black Sapphire Metallic beast looked amazing when done. I was also able to play with this beast on the back roads, It has Alpina Turbos / Intercoolers and Dinan Stage 6 tune, along with A BUNCH of other upgrades.... Everytime i put my foot down the gas needle moved a few centimeters ![]() First 2 pics are before rest are after... Enjoy the pics... |
