Crazy how sometimes we focus on the bad parts but forget how reliable others can be. I hope to get 200k on mine, even if I have to replace a turbo. Starting to doubt if I needed a warranty but oh well, high miles so always a risk.

That's a N52 NA 6 cyl, last year it was offered in the F10 528i. 2012-2016 were 2 liter N20 turbos.

You are buying at 70-80k car. You can't expect to pay 20k and not having to do maintenance on it up to $10k. People would never upgrade to new cars if you are expecting M3 level performance with Carmy level reliability. When I bought each variation of the N63, I put 10k to the side for any unexpected repairs. It comes with the territory.

Things to keep in mind.

1. You have to pay to play
2. You get what you pay for

2015 535xi, at 84K miles now. I had valve cover gasket replaced at 45K miles under warranty, leaking radiator replaced at 80K miles under extended warranty, spark plugs replaced and brake fluid flush done at 52K miles under extended maintenance. Then front rotors replaced and another brake fluid flush performed at 77K miles under extended maintenance too.

I am planning on flushing power steering and transmission fluids in the next couple of months. Valve cover gasket is a known issue, other than that, no major issues and except for the leaking radiator, mostly maintenance items.

I'm just over 120,000 miles (194,470 Km) on a 2010 N55.

I just changed the oil cooler gasket (BAPMIC German part) and now the engine is leak-free and clean. I'm using a BMS Stage 1 Piggy-back booster and all is good with the engine. Only normal maintenance and consumables have been needed. The N55 in this variant appears to be pretty rock-solid so far.

2016 535d 89,000 mostly gentle miles. So far only new (under warranty) headlights due to water seepage. Sensors around DPF are "out of spec" with no check engine light so far. Mechanic said transmission fluid was like new when changed at 80,000 miles.

I'm at 131k in my 2014 535d Xdrive. Have had a few repairs related to emissions system, AC evaporator, normal maintenance. I bought it new and think I've spent probably $10k or so for all maintenance and repairs since I bought it. That's excluding warranty items.
