On march 2019 discovered, there was water under trunk floor, which was not good news, because there are located a lot of expensive quipment: modules, relays, two batterys etc.:
So I removed all the trunk upholstery: Then I was able discover location, where water was getting in. And this was leaking spot, someone had tried remove this clip, and had damaged seal: So I ordered new clips and covering platics (old ones had some broken fasteners) for both sides and problem was gone: |

May 2019 was time to change rear differential fluid. Btw BMW sais, differintial is filled with lifetime fluid and does not require fluid change (yeah, right).
Here is all what is needed for this kind of job: There are no drain plug, but I managed ectract from differential 0.9 liters oil, in went a bit more, about 0.95 liters: Here are a comparison of the old lifetime fluid vs new BMW OE fluid (which is quite expensive btw): |

Mai 2019, it was time for new set brake discs and pads. All discs were down to their minimum thickness.
I decided to go with Zimmermann and I choose their Black Z range (slotted and coated with zinc) Here is complete set: Old rear disc removed and prepared for new: New front disc: New rear disc with 10 mm spacer: Also I painted all the calipers: End result with wheels: |

June 2019 - The car was starting every time fine (also in winter time), but every time I scanned the car with ISTA, there was fault code ”S0398 Power management, battery condition: battery faulty or worn out“. So I decided replace battery. Car had original battery from factory, made by Banner. So I went for Banner, but with bigger capacity and starting current (from 90Ah/900A to 105Ah/950A).
Size comparison 90Ah vs105Ah: 105Ah battery is biggest battery, that’s fitting normally in its place: Coded new battery: And finally registered battery exchange: |

June 2019 - It was time for first retrofit for my F10.
So US spec version did get trunk locking switch as standard, but not EU spec cars. So I decided add this by myself. First step is figuring out electrical connections: Actually its very simple, only two wires is needed, and to one be connected CAS pin 40 and other wire connected to the ground. Trunk lock switch is connected to the CAS module: And wire other end is routed under armrest centre console: Switch is installed and working fine. Never used it after installation |

Dicided, it was time for gearbox manitenance, car had 218000 km on clock and problably never had gearbox manitnence done before Opted for dynamic oli change. All what is needed for 8HP gerabox manitenance (and some other maintenance related parts): Oilpan removed and mechatronic part is seen: This is how old and fresh ZF LifeguardFluid8 compared: Last edited by marek555; 02-24-2022 at 12:42 AM.. |

one interesting thing about your car, other than its almost fully optioned out! is that the exhaust for the 535d in Europe has dual mufflers one on each side. Where as in the USA, the 535d comes with a single muffler with dual tail pipes. The dual exhaust on the diesel looks good!!

It was time to do I-Level update, because it had never been done after car left the factory. I did it with ENET cable, which is a bit risky route, especially when updating ZGW module. But I managed to do it finally. Programming requires stable 14 VDC power supply, so I did build one myself from old server PSU: My F10 has 36 separate modules, from which for 34 was new updates available at the time: After update, biggest visible improvement was for the instrument cluster, lower LCD part had new enhanced graphic applied. And I was able code day and night time background color settings: Also after update I could code heads up display to show multimedia information (calls, song names etc): Now over time, I have collected more diagnostic/programming/coding interface tools for my F10 (BMW Scanner 1.4.0 and 16 pin to OBDII adapter are for my E46): |

Replaced front fog lights H11 halogen bulbs with H11 LED-s, those LED-s were CANBUS compatible, so no errors. But I coded FRM just in case for LED bulbs. Comparison halogn vs LED: |
