The crappy melting/sticky door handles

Does anyone know if the F10 interior door handle can be separated like the E90 ones are designed to do? That is pulling the leather covered part away from the inside part that is covered with the melting rubberized soft-touch gunk.

I'm asking because my leather is the fine Merino leather and the complete handle replacements I have seen online appear to be textured fake leather.

I am thinking of removing and separating the F10 handle and removing all the rubberized gunk from the inner plastic part and trim-covering the inner plastic part with a felt material.

Any experienced feedback is welcomed regarding these F10 handles, before I jump in for the handle removal. The sticky handle looks absolutely crap and the feeling is, unfortunately, not the BMW feeling I am used to.

If you pull up the diagram for the interior door panels (not sure which one you want or if you want all of them)...does the handle appear separate like the e90 handle?

Perhaps seeing if the f10 door handle can be removed from the door panel like the e90's door handle will give a clue as to if you can do what it is you're thinking of.

Good luck. If you're not familiar with any of the online part database sites...here's 3 of my favs below. Just click one of the links below...type in the last 7 digits of your VIN...then browse over to the diagrams for VEHICLE TRIM...scroll down and look for the door diagrams and you should see if the handle fits what you're asking:
  1. www.realoem.com
  2. www.bmwfans.info
  3. https://bimmercat.com/

Example...the diagram below is for the front door...and the door handle is #4. The rear doors have another diagram that shows their handle:

Looks like it separates from the leather part:

You can get complete aftermarket kits that have good reviews for less than one OE BMW piece. I'm going this route: https://www.amazon.com/FEXON-Window-...s%2C267&sr=8-7

The handle parts in the photo indicate I can do what I plan to do. Thank you.

Even better solution

These arrived today, I am going to enjoy my day today.
They look and feel good already and they are not even installed yet. Better than the BMW versions and delivered in 12 days.

I have a luxury car back again.

Completed the front row, they look and more importantly feel excellent.
BMW must have anticipated the door panels would have to come off this model because the removal was the easiest I have ever experienced from a BMW. Doing the back row after some lunch.

Rear doors done and perfect.
The rear door panels were very stubborn to come off, I had to revert to the best panel removal tool I've got, the old-school metal paint scrapper wrapped in an old sport sock. The panel clips just popped out.

Did you go black for the contrast or the beige didn't match oyster (I think that's your colour)?

The black trim is on all the F10 M5's so I went with the black theme.
Also after living with the dirty looking oyster coloured bits for so long the black will make any future "dirt" completely eliminated from my mind, but it is not dirt, it's the crappy perishing BMW soft-touch rubber gunk that is now completely gone from my car.

I have the oyster interior and ordered the beige. They are slightly off color from the original but most likely not noticeable to anyone but yourself. I was not aware M5s all had black trim regardless of interior color but now that I see the black replacement for the oyster interior, I would have considered just going with black instead of the beige.

Other than that, these were a great investment. They feel much better than OEM.

It's an easy job.

It's all in here, BMW know what the design is and how to remove and replace:

https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...with-armrests/

For the rear doors the decorative strip does not need the come off, there is no torx screw behind the rear door panel, only behind the door pull cover. If you follow the guide in the TIS to remove the cover you will be fine. Try to visualize the attachment arrangement and removal is extremely easy with a bent thin trim removal tool. Starting at the back/rear clip and then disengaging the top front clip first, the lower front one is just lifted out.

Once the panel is off it's an easy removal of 4 screws to remove the handles, remember where the long ones and short ones go, but it is straight forward when you look at the mechanics of the parts. Separate the two parts of the handle with a removal tool starting from the top end and replace the parts and re-screw the handles on and re-assemble the door panels. If any clips break remember acetone can be used to chemically weld the ABS plastic back to a perfect structural part again.

It really is an easy task when following the TIS instructions and looking at Chinese and Korean guys YouTube clips, who have done the job but should have read the BMW TIS instructions first.

Just replaced mine with a cheap eBay set. I too have Oyster Dakota interior and I HATE the crappy soft touch material BMW does it. The replacements are ever so slightly off in color but you'd only know if you know. They feel 10x better in quality though! And came with the individual window switches for all doors.

Wow. These look really good. I may pick up a black set to go with my Mocha Brown interior. I really like that contrast with the Oyster.

Sure looks good with oyster/black! Not sure how it would look with all oyster...

Ok, for anyone that has purchased one of these replacement kits. A lot of the pictures online show the rear window switches in these kits are larger than the passenger switches. The switches on my F10 all seem to be the same size. What are you guys receiving with these kits and do these larger switches in the rear actually fit?

Hmm I never noticed that! I have a replacement kit from eBay but I've only installed the 2 front door pull handle inserts and window switches which were good but the rear ones do seem way bigger than stock

Wow, that is much larger. Do you happen to remember which kit that is or the seller? I would like to avoid that issue if possible, however my rear switches aren't that bad either.

OK, fellas. I found a cheap 7 piece Door Handle Kit on Ebay for less $40. The quality is excellent. Below is a quick video with my review and a link to the product.

Thanks for the video review Gjohnson7! Pulled the trigger on the same set of black trim and will be installing them in my Oyster interior.
