This kind of thing happens to everyone, right?

Wifey and I were getting ready to cook up some dinner when the doorbell rang. It's one of the roofers telling me he dropped his cell phone down the vent to our stove hood. His buddy dials his number and sure as shit, there's a bizarre ring tone coming out of the stove hood. Sounds like the Titanic is about to ram our house. Of course his phone is bigger than most of our TVs and was in an even larger belt clip case. I had to remove the entire stove hood to get it out. If you haven't removed your stove hood in years, be prepared for a big cleanup job.

This kind of shit happens to everyone, right? Tell me it's not just me.

It's 2:00 AM and I'm sound sleep in our 6-man squad bay (Army). I'm dreaming of the sound of running water. I finally awaken to see a trooper from down the hall pissing on the wall.

He was sleep walking and overshot the latrine by one door.

This happens more that anyone who hasn't served can imagine.
sleep and food deprivation will make humans do strange things that most people consider baffling... But it's actually quite common in the above mentioned community.

Your stove hood vents vertically? That seems like a bad design.

It's the thrust reverse.

My drunken Army roommate did that. All over one of the speakers on our combined stereo system. It was his speaker after that.

Everything in this house is a bad design.

Back about 10 years ago I had to dismantle it to get a bird out. How a bird managed to get through the vent at the top is beyond me.

It's not just you.

Here is one for me most recently: I just got my car back from the dealer after they replaced the diff seal and cylinder head vent line. They washed it and whoever washed it actually did a good job. So I thought, good time to wax it. So Tuesday I wax it. Wednesday, yesterday, downstairs neighbors have plumbing work done in their unit. It was some major job, I don't know what, but you could smell the torch afterwards, and hammers and saws were going and walls were vibrating all afternoon. So I get into the garage, on my way to the gym. And discover my car has been pissed on with black grimy gunk. The plumbers have apparently uncorked then snaked one of the lines in the garage ceiling. Directly over my car. No other cars affected, only mine. And worse, they tried to wipe off the gunk. All that grime has been smeared around, swirly streaks and smears. Awesome. No one knocked on my door, no one came to get me or tell me anything. Just let me discover it.

Yikes! I'll deal with the phone in the vent. You can have the grimy gunk.
