Some people and dealers are still asking pandemic prices but not many are selling for those prices.
All car pricing went out of whack & it's still slowly correcting. Going to be a bit

Previous gens have incredible resale value and this will be the last ICE version and 6MT (if you go that route).

To be fair, that's about 33k USD, Alfasti is Canadian
Top model CX5 Turbo Signature here is about 40k, or just south of 30k to you folks
And 45k or so CAD is for the hybrid Tucson

Still a rip, but will sound a little better

Pretty much everything you wrote there is wrong.

The exchange is irrelevant because our salaries are similar to those in the USA, exchange aside. I.e we hire people in both countries and if a PM is making $60CAD here they make $60K USD in the US, entry level is less in the USA but professional salaries are like for like so in terms of buying power, $45K is $45K in both countries so to speak.

$45k is the LIST price for the Tuscon hybrid, why you North Americans pretend taxes don't exist absolutely does my fucking head in. Add fees and taxes and the Hybrid is well north of $50K. To drive away the lowest trim Tuscon with only the TECH option selected is $45K+.

Looking at the CX-5 which I THINK is slightly larger than the Tuscon (doesn't the CX5 compete with the Santa Fe Sport?), selecting the 3rd of 6 trim packages (3rd lowest), it is $48K drive away which TBH seems better value than the Tuscon.

The topof the line CX5 Signature is $52K drive away.

Tax rates are different in different states so using MSRP is simpler.

Anyway, the CX-5 Signature (Highest trim level) starts at $40,600. We are getting ours at $500 under invoice. Only option we added was Soul Red paint.

After looking at lots of other vehicles and comparing quality, options, prices, we came back to the CX-5 which is what she wanted before we checked anything out lol

My wife has a 2021 CX-5 Signature that we also got a screeming deal on plus a zero interest loan. She loves that car. The dealer also threw in a lifetime power train warranty.

I'll never understand the balkanisation in north america, been here 20 years and it still feels like a bunch of states and provinces rather than two countries (I'll exclude mexico fromn this discussion).

In regards t the context of the conversation, the total monies paid counts in this instance as the question was what do these cars cost new if they are $25K used, off warranty and with 60K miles on them. Answer is, they cost damn near double.

We have had 2 CX5’s for a few years now, my 2019 GT is getting traded in tomorrow for a Z4 M40i. Wife has a 2018 CX5, we each have about 60k miles on them and they have been flawless, not a single issue. Mazda products have really improved in quality/reliability the past 10 years since splitting from Ford.

In all fairness, Mazda was not junk before. I have owned a 2007 & 2006 Mazdaspeed6 and both were great cars (not to mention the fact that I am on Miata #6). I bought the 2007 new and had the 2006 for a total of almost 10 years. I sold it after 5 then bought it back then sold it again LOL. It's for sale again via the guy I sold it to, but he wants too much so it pains me to pass, but $ is $. Wife had a 2009 Mazda6 before I met her as her DD and it's good so far. She still DDs it. That is what the CX-5 is replacing. The 2009 Mazda6 will be our beater. I can finally retire the Hellcat from winter duty

This. However, I have been trying to not swap so often as the wallet dislikes it lol. I can count on 1 hand the cars I have kept for more than a year or so in my life. The Hellcat is one of them. Bought it new. No plans to sell. I expect this Miata (It's my 6th) to stick around for a while as well.

Next up is likely find a nice & fun daily since the Hellcat will finally be retired from winter duty.

There are definitely no exciting cars with manual V8s and outstanding handling/chassis below 75K.

I would argue the Mustang and Camaro absolutely fall into this category in their higher trims.

Overall cost of ownership. Even 10 year old cars can have significantly different depreciation curves. It's what makes the GT4 a cheaper to own car than an Audi A6.

Apples to oranges. Compare similar MSRP or used car price as of today. Otherwise, let's compare a Miata to a GT4 too

If a $100k car depreciates to $90k, and the $60k car depreciates to $50k, then that equal $10k depreciation is apples to apples and the cost of ownership is the same provided one can afford the higher upfront costs of the $100k car payment.

This is how people can afford a $400k car that only depreciated to $350k. It's just the price of a Camry.

In the USA, the top line Tucson Hybrid is $39,500. Top line CX-5 is $42,700. MSRP before taxes/fees. Your guys' MSRPs start higher than the US's. But thats Hybrid vs non-hybrid. Going with the regular Tucson is another few thousand cheaper.

That's not how it works. I can post $500k car vs $50k car too. Good day.
