New Intercooler

After much reading and research, I've decided that an improved intercooler will be my first mod. Mainly because any tuning moving forward would almost require a larger, better heat dissipating cooler.

What brand have folks used with tunes? There are a lot of knock offs and china brands, so I'm looking for a drop in, no modifications, no drilling or bracket modification cooler. Thanks for your time.

Jim

The Wagner intercooler is the only intercooler for the 535 not made in china, as far as I know.

that said, the MAD intercooler is the best value and will outperform the Wagner cooler.

Thanks for the info guys I really appreciate it. My only question I guess is if a 7" Race cooler would be to large. Read an article that was from back in 2018, that talked about the 5", 6" and 7" coolers. I'm not planning on going crazy with the tune, looking for 325 to 375 RWHP at the most. I don't want to introduce undo turbo lag with using a larger than needed cooler. Also being in the in Houston Texas area, it gets very hot in the summer with high humidity. I remember how my brothers Turbo T type Buicks performance would really fall off in the heat. Of course that was with a factory Buick intercooler. Anyone have any thoughts about the larger coolers? Thanks.

What you are referring to is pressure drop and the amount of pressure it will take to fill such a large volume from. While this is true these cars tend to build boost very quickly and the difference in lag will hardly be noticable. In a high heat situation the colder denser air will likely be more more beneficial than a smaller cooler and hotter air.

The beauty of the step design is you get the larger surface area but without the added volume of a intercooler of the same size.

I have that MAD i/c on my 640i. Built well, performs well. And all intercoolers for the 535/640 are the same size that I could find. Because the 535/640 has a dumb design with the i/c behind the radiator, you need the extra size anyway. A bit of a pain to install, but well worth it. Just take out as much as you can, including the radiator fan.

With shipping costs and the amount added by customs that's sadly not an option, I am at almost double the costs by then.

Same with the new intake, the MST is cheaper than getting yours shipped and through customs.
