still getting a long crank and low fuel pressure codes
Hey guys so I was getting long cranks before and my hpfp was reading consistently well due to my logging, and my car wouldn’t stall or anything but instead just have a long crank, like it’s losing pressure as the car sits while it’s off. So I figured I needed a new regulator and replaced the low pressure fuel pump and assembly unit. My problem was fixed for 3 weeks driving good like always, And this morning I turned it on and it gave me a damn long crank again. Funny thing is, if I hit the ignition twice to prime the pump, it’ll crank right away. So I don’t know what it is anymore considering my car had the issue fixed for a few weeks after I replaced pump. Keep it mind I found slight dirt in the fuel tank when I replaced it but didn’t clean it Becuase I couldn’t. I’m not sure if this can be the issue. Let me know what you think. The codes are shadow codes on mhd:
- DME shadow (inactive) codes - 11A401 - Fuel high pressure during fuel injection release: Pressure too low. 11B401 - Fuel high pressure or after enabling iniection (2nd ambient condition set after delay): Pressure too low. |

Might be a symptom of a dying EKPM module

Try using a reputable Fuel system cleaner, something seems clogged up or gunky. Better than replacing something else if all it needs is to be cleaned.

Any update? What did you try to correct or possibly fix the issue?

Sup dude, so not exactly to be honest but I have been just turning on the ignition for 5 seconds before starting Becuase it shortens the crank like a normal one due to the fuel priming. I’ve kinda just been driving, it drives good and pulls hard, I’m currently stage 1 mhd and stage 2 xHP. Everything’s fine and until I pull any legit codes ima just drive like this.

Fuel Pump Control Modules are not that expensive, That EKPM module Unspec mentioned to you, however as long as you are happy, just have an action plan in mind.

Yeah, im doing the cheapest possible fixes I can do (mostly diy). I think next ima clean my Vanos solenoids. And before next fill up I’ll put some Techron in the tank.

Does it long crank when you restart it immediately? Talkin like within 10-20 min? Where did you get the low pressure fuel pump from? Check valve for fuel lines is on rubber line in-between bucket and tophat / seal of LPFP. Had this exact problem last year. I used an oreilly’s lpfp and chased this issue for a long time.

Sorry to open this thread again, but my car died from a fuel supply issue lol. Turns out it is most likely my high pressure fuel pump which isn’t gonna be fun to replace. I’m not gonna have my car for a week bht I have to say I’ll finally enjoy a short crank and better mpg when I do get it back 😁😁

Okayyyy so a weird turn of events, so my car died on me while driving before right. I replaced the lpfp with my old one that I replaced before Becuase it was still working right. My car had a crank but would not start so I towed it to my home. A week later I’m ready to tow it to the shop and the trucker tried to turn my car on even though I said it won’t turn on and then BAM she fired right up like nothing ever happened!! I couldn’t believe it turned on. It still isn’t making sense to me on how the hell it turned on. It left me thinking why the hell did it just crank at my friends house where I replaced the lpfp but turned on a week later at my house ? My car is so fucking weird man. But none the less I still got it towed even though there were zero codes and fully drivable just to be reassured that my car is fully safe to drive Becuase even though it’s on with no issues, I can’t guarantee it won’t cut out on me again. So I let my friend who’s a bmw tech take it for the weekend to inspect it out.

Wow, I just hope you find the true root cause to this, that it truly is the HPFP, (only so many factors after all you've done already) I want your car to survive and that you get all the years possible out of it!

We replaced the hpfp with oem. The car runs fanstastic thank god. Feels comepletely different too. We learned I had a boost leak as well with my turbo inlet pipe clamp being loose.
