Hi guys,

newbie here about to get my 2016 550i GT.
After much research, I'm pulling the trigger.
How do you guys feel about that N63TU motor?
Seems they've out engineered some of the troubles with that engine. Anyone with a 550i that wants to share their experience? K go

Also want to clean it up a bit so I'm thinking:
-blacked out side markers
-carbon spoiler lip
-black kidney grilles...

anything else?

Hello Blue Devil GT, I also just pulled the trigger on a 550iGT. Mine however had the engine replaced under the class action lawsuit. Check and see if your engine is among the ones that are defective. If you are over 60k mileage i believe you pay 15% of the cost, while BMW picks up the rest.

Totally with you on the rear spoiler, I am going with the Hamann version. I will post pictures soon.

The n63tu has been reliable for me. I have 63K miles on the engine and the only notable repair was the replacement of the 02 sensors that failed at 57K.

I've also done my own maintenance on this engine, replaced spark plugs, filters, etc. The hoses under the hood that are made of plastic do not route over the turbos (a big plus in the fight against embirttlement). the hoses in the turbo area are all rubber or ss (as far as I've seen). Mine burns no oil, runs great.

I've had less trouble with my 2016 550ix than I have with my 2011 X5M which has the s63 engine a near clone of the n63. That one had a lot of plastic emissions lines running right over the turbos that have all had to be replaced, as well as alternator, valve cover gaskets, rear main seal, filtered air ducts, all pcv lines, turbo oil lines, turbo coolant lines, MAP sensors, and etc.

So compared to the older n/s63's its been more reliable. Though a lot of the problems on the S63 are age related, age / heat cycles are as hard on cars if not more so than mileage.

Wouldn’t worry to much about it bud. The only trouble I had out of the og N63 was oil consumption and just had her replaced in my 2010 550i. Runs like a dream.

Can I ask how many miles you had when they did the swap? Dealer told me CCP only covers up to 100k miles.
