I haven't seen anyone address this. And this is something I have also seen in other posts, but no one ever goes into detail on how or why? Can we just unplug the MAFs? Does tuning need to be done?

I mean I can unplug the MAF on my LS Chevy and it'll drive fine, but it just goes to stock fuel maps when you do that. But that is a very simple engine.
If you unplug the MAF, you will get a code. I would guess the car would run terrible.

Yes, i cut a small piece of 3" pipe to attach the filter to the 45.

Even though I've got a TU which I see people say doesn't use the MAF, I'd still want to cut the housing so everything is copacetic. For a fee, would you be willing to duplicate the cutting and tapping?

So I picked up a list very similar to that and it leaves me with some questions after trying a mock up.

Did you oblong out the 3" 45 degree? Because that thing is not fitting in that passage that far. Also why 4x 45's? It seems like the ones up front should be 90's. And how long are the 45's you got? I picked up a 90 and was just going to cut it in half, but I'm still missing a few pieces, so I can't get a full mock up, but it seems like it will be short.

Unfortunately, i dont have the car anymire ao i cant measure them. I tried 90s in the front, but it placed the filters to close to the cross supports.

It was a complete pain in the arse to get the 45's through the passage. What i did to get them through was:

Put the 45 pipe in the passage and align it as if it was all attached so that you can mark it and the 45 coupling to assemble outside of the car.

Take the pipe and the coupling, align the markings and assemble them with clamps out side of the car. Tighten them up, but make sure the bolts on the clamps are along the top so they fit into the passages.

Use some vaseline or lubricant on the coupling and pull it through the passage from the engine bay side towards the front. It will be a complete pain, but it fits.

Next attach the upper 45 coupling to the maf housing and 45 pipe. Tighten clamps.

Next, install a small piece of 3" pipe (i cut this small section off of the other pipe) into the airfilter and tighten the clamp.

Lastly, install the filter and pipe into the intake and tighten the clamp.

I can tell you that i definitely got pissed off a few times, walked away and had a beer while staring at it. Just take your time and patiently wiggle it through the passage.

I'll have to try and lube her up, lol. I've just been mocking things up a bit. It looks like you must have also cut up a 3" silicone tube to fit between the MAF housing and the intake tube. I started testing fitting and could damn near through a cat between them, but then checked one of the silicone elbows and it fit nice inside of there.

So it looks like I have a few more odds and ends to order and will have to get to modifying my MAF housings so the sensors go to the right depth. Do you know if it matters if the housing was rotated so the sensor was hidden on the back side? Or do MAF sensors need to be close to horizontal?

Either way, here's my first test fit

And here's as far as I managed to get the 3" pipe with the 3" silicone 45 over it, lol.

Here is a good way to get them through that small passage.

The last 45 degree couple I went with a 90 and trimmed it a bit off (like 75 degree) but I did that for the look of the filters. Haven't had a MAF fault nor have I ran lean at all in 2 years.

Heating up the plastic hole to get through to the kidney grill area helped a ton too.

I don't think the orientation of the MAF pipe matters, I have ran them on both sides but then again I have not upgraded to the X5/M5 inlets just because if it's not broke why fix it kind of deal.

You also need to replace you turbo coolant lines ASAP, I currently have the brass T with rubber tubing but Monday I will be installing my new AN10 fittings and steel braided lines (mainly for looks but also durability). Picture is just the mock, nothing is tightened yet. But I promise, 7 out 10 of us have had cracked or leaky plastic T's and had to change it after they leaked.

I think eBay, you can buy the whole kit with just black fittings and the hose or individual purchases with the type of hose and the color of fittings you want. But just google either AN8 or AN10 fittings and you will find a million different types and color variations

I still don't understand the PCV system used in your 2012 550.. Did you order it from a 750 engine or? I see no crossover pipes in the middle at all.

Those air inlet part numbers are for the v8 version of f15/f16,
The x5M has a different inlet tube, which one are you using exactly?

The reason I ask my 2016 n63TU oil filler tube has to be removed for this to fit,
Do I need to buy the x5M inlets instead?
