Suspension Refresh

Thinking about pulling the trigger on the Koni Special Active (formerly FSDs) shocks to pair with stock springs since there is a 20% sale right now. I still want to keep the comfort of the car since there are a lot of potholes where I am. Anyone have them installed and can weigh in on it to help me make a decision? I am in NorCal so would be willing to chat and compare set ups. The car def needs a refresh and I am in between OE/Sachs and the Konis

I've had the Koni Specials on my '14 535 for 6 months now using stock springs. I have the M-Sport suspension option (SA704.

Several factors to consider:
  1. The assemblies are steel and their weight is significant over BMW OE aluminum tubes
  2. Zero front end dip when braking....which may differ if you have a V-8 (heavier engine), which I thought was pretty impressive
  3. The car's suspension DNA absolutely changes to being planted over stock, but you also get to feel every imperfection in the road

Here are few notable comments:
  • The MFG dates across the 4 assemblies were very different over a year apart, and in one case over two years apart, but after installation, they performed the same
  • The settled ride height on front was 1/2" higher on the front, and 1/2" lower on the rear...and suspect that with a heavier N63 engine (over the N55), that the ride height would be "factory"...once the "gas" pressure eventually reduces over time, the height may reduce, but then the strut won't perform correctly either....so going back to BMW branded strut assemblies, front and rear

....I plan to let my units go for 1/2 of what I paid with only <600 miles on them.

thanks for sharing your experience and happy thanksgiving! I am not looking for a really sporty ride but I want the car to give more confidence. I thought about M-sport suspension retrofit as well. I am honestly so lost. How would you compare the comfort of the KONIs to M-sport option? (Car is 2013 535i with the n55)

It is a lot of money to invest in this and there's no way of trying out these things and returning them if you don't like them

I installed the Bilstein B16 PSS10 coilovers on my 550i about 5 years ago. Really like the ride/handling and was able to adjust it to lower about 1/2" front and level the rear. I had the sport suspension as well.
