Questions for owners:

1/ what form does the "all modes show current gear" take on the instrument cluster? D1, D2, D3, S1, S2, S3? I'm assuming that XHD alone could not bring current gear to HUD and other software in other modules would be required?

2/ anyone with a 205 option transmission apply this?

3/ What happens with no COMFORT/SPORT switch?

4/ Is there an option to keep the 3rd and 6th gear torque limits in place if you want to?

I would like faster shifting, much faster, but don't blast around at WOT all the time and I'm of the impression that the torque limits are probably there for a reason I'd like to maintain. I have a PWG N55, standard option 205 non-sport transmission, and have retrofitted paddles.

Curious how this would work out.

Some people mention the gearing being too short? Like @ 40mph you're already in 8th gear while in Drive non-sport mode. Is that bothersome?

1. You are right D1 to D8 on display and S1 to S8.

As for 40mph and being in 8th gear, it is not that annoying... it still holds the gear for few seconds if you need to speed. Also, I am 50mph and still in 6th gear then once I am done and cruising at 50mph it drops to 8th gear

Not sure what is 205 option.

4. Probably.can be done on custom license, but I want full torque available in all gears so I didnt care to look into that. Pretty sure they set that limit to make car slower vs trans cant handle it. They (BMW) need to make sure all models have different characteristics.

Now I just want to see if this has impact on 0 to 60 and 1/2 mile times.

Not sure what is 205 option.
Option S2TBA is the sport automatic transmission. Option S205A is the normal automatic transmission. I find it a trend that most tuner/aftermarket brands seem to only cater to owners who already have the sportiest factory options on a chassis. e.g. the 550i, or the sport automatic, or whatever. I lived this in my E39 days where I had an inline 6 engine and pretty much everything was for the V8 cars. Ditto with my E90 - it seemed like most things were for the 335i and I had a 328i.

I'd just like to hear that you can put this software on a 205 and see good improvements in behaviour and that 2TB isn't a pre-requisite

From what I've read I disagree, but I'm not trying to talk any owners out of anything - do what you like with your cars

That's stock software behaviour in D. It can't be any more annoying than stock.... (?)

D1 to D2 changes as soon as it hits 2k RPM then depending on your throttle rest of the gears change anywhere from 3k to 5k rpm.

Stage 3 (S mode) is so much fun specially if you have an exhaust but definitely a fuel burner.

I wrote XHP and they responded that since I don't have sport+ (just sport) that stage 3 is not any different than stage 2 on my car.

Hopefully they make a future update where stage 3 does something with just sport mode and you don't need sport+

Hmm I dont have sport+ button either but now D mode is more fun to drive in. I feel like ai get to my desired speed on day to day driving much quicker in D now. The shifts also has a different feel now with stage 3.

Yup. Thats probably why I didnt feel much difference in S and M vs how D is now. Basically, for most part I dont need to go into S mode to enjoy the car. Shifts are short and quick but keeps the car moving nicely... hard to explain, just go to stage 3 lol you already paid for it and it takes 30 secs :P.

Or it could be just that my car finally adapt to the changed and they are more noticable.

Yea, exactly, I think I'll just leave her in stage 3 and at the very least tell myself it's better than 2!

Two other things I notice today:

1. The car changes gear very nicely, sooooo smooth its intoxicating lol.

2. The kickdown is much better, it changes to the best gear to bring power to the car. I always felt like with stock map that kickdown would take the car into like lowest gear possibe where that particular gear start around 5k rpm. With XHP kickdown puts the gear around 3500 rpm and brings the ppwer so smooth.

Exactly how I feel. The "need" to put in S once the engine/trans warms up is no longer there anymore lol. I still put it in S/S+ when I have open-road or know I'm about to have to get a little aggressive, but prior to the flash, I'd be in S for the duration of whatever commute I was making.

S finally feels like a true "Sport" mode, and D finally feels like what it should have been from the factory.

EDIT: I'm using Stage 2...I don't really see a need for stage 3 if I'm not tracking my car. I'll try it out though, once I do a trans drain/refill.

Somehow it feels like I am driving a 3 series lol. It is so much fun driving the car now.

I understand, the S mode is now super fun, it brings power to you in each gear nicely. Def. Not gas friendly lol.

Ziekxq and neejay, any chance either of you had Sprintbooster or bms pedal tune before you had xhp? I'm still underwhelmed by xhp and what you're both saying sounds more like what I thought after I got bms pedal tune.

(“Underwhelmed” but I'm still glad I got it)

Nope, no sprintbooster or bms pedal. It is very hard to explain how XHP improves overall driving experience. Sprint booster or bms pedal tune is just signal booster for the pedal. The xHP tune changes how gear shifts, when they shift, how fast they shift, best gear selection, etc.

Best comparison I can think of is:

Sprint booster is like BMW's active steering where you dont have to turn the steering wheel too much for the car to turn vs car with non-active steering wheel where you would have to put extra afford by turning the steering wheel half way to get the car to make the same turn.

Same thing applies to sprint booster where you dont have to press the pedal all the way to get same result on a car with sprint booster from the throttle vs non-sprint booster car you have to push extra pedal. That is my understanding of the tune.

Agree with the differences of an actual trans tune vs just the throttle response, I've just been surprised at how much difference the bms pedal tune has made even though in theory it's kind of a silly mod

So do you have both? To me it was worth spending money on trans tune but no so sure about the pedal mod. Only if I had someone with 5 series near me with the mod lol.

I have both...there was some other huge thread about speedbooster awhile back and I agree with most of the people there that said after you've used it, you can't not have it...for $180 it's been amazing bang for my buck and I feel like MHD+XHP+Throttle is a great well-rounded upgrade to the car's personality
