well that sux! Drivetrain Malfunction

So this morning after the gym I parked the car in the garage with no problems. Started up the car and the Drivetrain Malfunction popped on. I'll have to hookup my laptop and pull codes to see what it is. No problems on Saturday when I was at the Woodward dream Cruise tho with some hard pulls here and there. I'm wondering if me this morning throwing into neutral than reving it and throwing it back into drive has anything to do with it? By no means was I revving the car than immediately throwing it into drive.

Seems your car just wants you to drive her more! In her opinion, a trip to the dealer is better than just sitting in the garage!

yes! before I got the drive train malfunction pop up I remember hitting a back country road full throttle and I noticed the car didn't feel like it was pulling as hard. but didn't really think into it at the time but I did notice it. been watching a lot of videos on drivetrain malfuctions and seems most people have been replacing spark plugs first. and if that didn't correct the problem they went and swapped out the coil packs. yes, I do have the JB4 so when I get home i'll have to hook up my labtop and pull the codes. I believe ziekxq you said I can reset and clear codes correct? is that the section under the JB4 program that says "read DME"?

the car isn't misfiring or anything since i'm just driving normal. hopefully no issues going home from work tonight

I don't think I told you that, but yup that is where you should be able to read and clear codes. If you just looking to clear codes than you can do that using BC button as well.

Good luck... Now you are in the JB4 world of problems... I would start with sparkplugs and coils. But depends how long ago did you change those plugs?

I've been on JB4 running map 5 for almost 15k mi now, I've gotten drivetrain malfunction once in that time and it was fuel pump ground wire fault (extended warranty via BMW corp). I don't drive mine frequently, couple times a month, but when I do I make sure I warm it up and it does see redline once in a while

Thanks! Got recommendations for the same stuff. Actually gonna hookup the laptop now and see the codes. I would do it through the BCM but it's still not working. Getting the Bluetooth app come next month as I'm already budgeted out for this month now that I gotta order plugs and coils

I knew what you meant when you said that lol! So interesting. My lab top says no codes found after running DME check? so I'm assuming I'm not getting power or connection with the OBD retrofit. Probably explains why I don't have BC connection. Will have to recheck my wires. Do you know if the car can also be reset with the hidden menu feature?

I am not sure about the hidden dash menu. Does the JB4 app says connected? Also see if you can validate other configuration. Best way to test if you getting power at least on JB4 side is to connect the laptop and start the car. You will see AFR and other values start changing on the main app screen. If that happens than you should be connected and getting power.

So we hooked up the laptop and I notice I'm not seeing any AFR and other values. Everything is 0.

Damn man, having issues. I just had to order all new front hub assembly and cv axles. Hope the best on yiur findings. My axle bolt snapped so I cant drive mine till fridayish

Yup! I have a feeling when I ran the OBD wire underneath the dash if I plug the OEM OBD harness back in? Gonna have to take it apart again. I checked all my wiring. I even installed new connectors for the OBD retrofit since I think the posi taps weren't connected

E12C01 & E12C03
The instrument cluster receives the resistance values of the fuel level sensors from the JBE / REM / BDC control unit in the form of a CAN message.
A short circuit to B+ is detected if the received resistance value is greater than the defined fault limit value.

B7F668
The fault is entered after a software reset or a hardware reset.

Looks like you have short circuit somewhere. @JB4problems
