KAFAS 1 windshield, KAFAS 2 possible?
Hey all, been going through the journey of retrofitting the KAFAS2 camera on my 2014 535i. I've purchased a windshield that is perfect for my car, HUD, and Kafas compatible. But it is PRE-LCI, and to my understanding at the time, the only available camera was the KAFAS1 camera. So I'm asking if the windshield can still be compatible with Kafas2, even if modifications need to be made. Thank you.

This depends on the year of the pre LCI. The mount for the rear view mirror may be different. Older one from 2011-early 2013 is twist on. Late 2013- 2016 is slip on. If it’s slip on, you don’t need to modify anything. Just swap out the camera and you are good to go. If you already have kafas1, it’s an easy upgrade to kafas2. No need to modify anything. Just switch out camera and ecu then code it.

2011 p Windshield. I've seen taking the Kafas 2 camera out of its housing, putting it into the Kafas 1 shell, and it'll work that way. Is that something I'll need to do?. Thanks for the reply btw |

You would have to modify the bracket on the windshield and it will fit KAFAS2 camera. I think it is best to get the proper windscreen for your vehicle since it is a LCI. You are looking at different rear view mirror, rain sensor and have to modify bracket to make that windscreen work on your car.

Mount design is totally different. It is best to purchase a mirror. I don’t know if it’s possible to transfer the mounting bracket over from your existing windscreen or not. You might damage the windscreen removing it. I believe the connector is different as well (not 100% sure).
