Check Engine After Sand Blasting: 190F08
Hello Everyone,
I Have a 2014 LCI 535i with the N55 engine. The car is sitting on around 120k miles and from the look of the intake valves they seem like they have never been cleaned. So I took them to my local BMW specialist shop to do sand blasting and after they were done and I took delivary of the car and drove it for few blocks, the CEL popped up. No drivetrain malfunction thank godness, only the check engine light. The car seemed fine with no loss in power. I checked the codes using my scanner and I got only one code in the DME: 190F08: Fuel tank ventilation system: Malfunction. I took it back immediatly to the shop to be checked. and it sat there for quite a while. They called me after few days saying that they did some valve calibration operations which was required after sand blasting and that solved it. I took delivery of the car today and drove it almost all day. I reached home and scanned the car and it still showed the same error above but now there is no CEL. I cleared it and drove it some more, it still did not show any CEL but when I reached home and scanned it again it still showed the same error mentioned above. Is there any chance that the shop programed the car to ignore the code so that it does not show a CEL if that is possible? and what are your ideas on how to fix the code? I looked around the forums and it seems like so many parts and things could contribute to this error but I did not find one case that had the code popped up right after sand/wallnut blasting. Thanks in advance! |

For anyone seeing this post, the problem was fixed. The issue was a rubber gasket in one of the pressure sensors that the Tank Vent Valve reads from. I think its the one on the intake monifold but not sure as the technician replaced already and told me afterwards. Most likely it was a coincidence that it failed right after blasting the valves.
