Huge drop service indicator brakes after tuning.
Has anyone ever had this?
Na tunen van je auto dat er een hele snelle daling volgt van de kilometers van remmen service. After my car was tuned, the service indicator (for the rear and front brakes) was really dropping fast: Service indicator: 09 oct. 1600 km (before BMW dealer maintenance) 16 oct.. 20.000 km (big maintenance, reset on brake/ service indicator)** 25 oct.. 20.000 km (day of car tuning, just before tuning) 04 nov. 16.000 km 13 nov. 2000 km In this period i only drove short distances, in total 1000 km. Nothing special, no racing or any other thing that could wear out brakes fast. BMW F10 535i from 2010 Gearbox ECU ZF 8HP45 (automatic gearbox) Tuning stage 1 (from 306 hp to 365 hp / from 400Nm to 520Nm). The description of the tuning: "tuning-vmax off" **Had brought the car in for replacing the brakes on 28th of aug. Because the service indicator had dropped to 1600 km. BUT the dealer said after measuring the brake pads: there's nothing wrong, nothing to be done here. When they did the big maintenance on the 16th of oct. they reset the service indicator. What could be the cause of going from 20.000 to 2000km is such a short period? Thanks for your repsonse. Last edited by joshiba; 11-14-2019 at 04:54 AM.. Reason: spelling |

You mean the computer of the car has some formula running? Would replacing sensors be an smart option? (As both front and rear brake numbers (service menu) have dropped massively). Tx for your response. |

Only replace If you replaced pads otherwise you will just end up where you were. And yes car keeps data on how long took for first sensor wire so that it much more accurately displays wear based on your driving and car for the second half.

I read somewhere that others experienced the same. The consensus was that sometimes the actual remaining interval (based on computer calculations) doesn't correspond to the actual distance driven till the warning light is turned on.
if you have 2000km left and just recently replaced the brakes, probably you will be able to drive it for quite some time before the actual warning light comes on. |

I'm not quiet sure what to do and what will happen. I can ofcourse reset the thing myself, right? I also read that it is even possible for BMW to put a custom new number in (based on some kind of algorythm that BMW has), in stead of a standard reset. |
