Music Crackling

When my iPhone is plugged into the USB port, I get a lot of crackling through the speakers. Bluetooth is clean sound, but much quieter. I use a standard cable. Any advice is appreciated.

Try a new cable? To be honest if your bluetooth works fine, why not just use the bluetooth.

I have to turn the volume up more with BT for some reason. The BMW apps also require a direct connection to the car.

That is very true. I have the L7 system. Haven’t tried a new cable yet. My current cable is only a year old, but it is 10 feet long. I remember in my old 3 series, that cable was a Y cable and I think it had a filter in line.

Definitely agree, since the only codec supported by our system is AAC. Unfortunately, newer phones have mostly ditched the headphone jack, and so Bluetooth is much more convenient. The center console USB doesn't put out much power and so I end up losing a solid amount of battery for long car rides, which means USB is not a real option either.

Weird. My USB charges at about 1% per minute; same with the snap-in adapter. Whether my "old" iPhone 6s+ or my new iPhone XR.

I’m still using my iPhone 5s. Haven’t tried another source, but am not willing to buy another iPhone at this time. I have an old iPod mini I might try to see if I get the same results.
