N63 Coolant Line Leak Fix
So nothing new here in terms of findings from what others have done already. I did however take some additional pictures for easier navigation of the infamous Y connector.
So mine was leaking badly... it started off as small wisps of steam from the passenger side of the engine (which confused me). It smelled of burning plastic etc that was indicative of something spraying directly into the turbo housing area. I pulled the intake hose flex elbows, the hard intake pipe into the turbo on both sides. The rubber charge side pipe into the inter coolers, I've seen someone else pin them back with zip ties so that was very helpful. There's a lot of wire looks and some other lines that make it tight but tuck them out of the way with zip ties and it helps with creating room. I did buy the OEM replacement hose assembly but found the hose clamps (at the ends, not the Y) were indeed quite the effort to access. I decided to go with replacing Just the Y with a new part. Now a caveat here, I used a plastic vacuum Y part with 3/8in OD as an interim solution. I think I'm gonna do the brass plumbing part route or use the ECS part that's a VAG part. I've seen a Chrysler part that may work but looks like OD may be too large. Just to answer some questions. The OEM hose when new has about a ID of 1/8 to 3/16 in. When I pulled out the broken Y fitting, the hoses were stretched out so I had to use a 3/8in fitting for now... I think my brass fitting route may have to be 3/8.

I'd pull the turbos, exhaust manifold, heat shielding and replace everything. There is so so much more than you can see in those pictures going on under the layers.
The whole mess of coolant and oil supply and return lines is a consumable item, every 50-60k it all needs to be replaced on the N63 engine. It is part of routine maintenance. |

Is it abnormal for a little bit of oil to be in the turbo intake side?

Brass fitting options here... 3/16, 1/4, 3/8 sizes... like about $5 each on Amazon.

Brass works much better.... I was able to cinch it down tight. The plastic, still had a pin leak as I was afraid to crank on it... but held up to heat OK w gold tape.
