Downpipes

Don't wanna spend $$$ i been thinking about
Taking off my stock downpipes and drilling out all of the crap from inside and making my own
catless. What do you guys think of this
Good idea bad idea anyone done this before?
After all I think it's same concept with aftermarket catsless you buy only difference I save $500
Tnx

I've look into this. Some guys say it's almost best because you won't have fitment issues. I just Don't wanna ef it up! I asked what needs to be done exactly and from my understanding all you do is punch the honeycomb out. Hey, why don't you try it and let me know how it turns out than I'll follow

I don't know man I have two down pipes.
If something doesn't workout check engine light comes on that would be very expensive fix
Since you only have one down pipe how about you try first jk

I HIGHLY recommend the Arm Motorsports downpipes. They actually only make them for the F10 (I have a E70 with an N63 in it). Took a chance that being the same engine it would work and they did, fit perfectly on the turbos with zero fitment issues. I thought for sure I would have to weld or cut something to get it to work on the rest of the exhaust being that this is a X5 and not a 5 series but it slipped right in with no issues. They only make the version with the slip-fit so if you have the boltup type to the rest of the exhaust it won't work. Quality on these pipes is incredible too, especially for only 350 bucks. https://www.armmotorsports.com/BMW-F...-tu-dp-550.htm

Ya you will get a check engine light, all downpipes will cause it. Only a custom tune will take it out or perhaps those Oxygen sensor restrictors might work. The throttle response and power increase is well worth the trouble. You can really hear the turbos spool now too. Your neighbors are not going to like your cold start in the morning though lol

If you are going to go catless, I highly recommend getting a tune for the car. It will setup the engine to run its best with the new downpipes.

Planning on it! Just deciding on ER or save $150 and go with VSRF? I mean they're both catless but am I sacrificing quality going with VSRF over ER?

Depending on the tune you go with for example my JB4 I can select that map that accounts the mods I have done. I think the same goes for flash tunes like MHD

A tune will definitely maximize the potential of the downpipes but the difference is night and day even without it. Especially if you have a ton miles on your engine like me (150k). Cats don't do well in oil burning n63s! Spool up and throttle response improvement is amazing without the cats, and this is on a 5300lb X5!, F10 is going to be even more noticeable I have a jb4 waiting, new injectors, waiting but going to do valve seals and carbon blast intake before I install
