2013 vs 2014 535i?
Hey guys,
Been browsing for a while, but finally singed up. We are looking to replace a 2007 g35s Infinti with a BMW 5. Since the new BMWs are going over 80+ in Canada and there's quite a few used ones on the market, so we are looking to get a pre-owned. Is there a big difference between a 2013 and a 2014 535i? I came across a 2013 535i lease return with m-sport, exec, adv saftey for ~37k Canadian and has ~26k KM (16k miles) on it. No warranty and it's not CPO and had 1 accident which was $1400 in damage. Is this worth considering or should I look for a 2014 and newer? Thanks! |

But, there are many fixes under the cover that take place and that could be a factor in extending the life of your vehicle. Even so, each year newer you buy will correspond to an extra year of longevity. Plus, the value of the car is increased for each year newer. Thus, three factors point to the 2014 over the 2013, assuming mileage and condition are similar: 1. The 2014 LCI will have cosmetic changes and system upgrades. 2. The 2014 will be worth more since it is newer (all other things being equal) 3. You will likely have less service issues post LCI. |

My 2013 535xi, built in August 2012, has NBT. Now with over 90K kms (55K miles) on the odometer, I've had no major issues. The most significant repair was recent, and it was a new A/C radiator up front to address the normal rock damage that is also reported on this forum.
If the OP is considering Canadian-spec cars, they will all be xDrive for 2013 and 2014. They will not have 704 suspension option, but from my experience, the available DHP is an important option that improves handling.

Depending on build date of the 2014, it could be either PWG or EWG, and if tuning that can make a difference.

Owned my '13MY 535 now for almost 17months and 12K miles, the only times it's been in the shop were for regular service and once to replace a faulty HVAC control unit (three little LEDs behind some buttons weren't illuminating when the lights were on - worked fine otherwise. Entire thing replaced under warranty). While it may be a relatively boring car to drive, I can't say anything negative in the reliability dept. Likely no change in reliability between '13 and '14. If you guys think CIC is bad, try to remember back when we had CCC I-drive to deal with. I'll settle for CIC any day over that. I like the '13's because of the classic fender-mounted side indicators - the '14s rendered that previously useful hole in the fender to a useless trim blandishment which couldn't possibly look more out of place. Best part about the '14's is the availability of NAPPA leather which I miss coming from the M scene.
