Anybody else with "Increase Battery Discharge"
Been having this problem for over a month. 1st time in they told me to trickle charge the battery and lock the car at night. Did that and a few days later it was back. Brought it in and they tested it for a few days. Confirmed that something was not "going to sleep" and was draining the battery. Kept it for a week, had the regional tech come in and did some software upgrades. They thought they had it fixed but when i picked it up it reared its ugly head again. Waiting to hear back as to the next step.

I had this on my E61 turned out to be the starter motor was sucking out a lot of amps, required alot of starter motors to be changed (was a known issue).

Had it during winter
I've had this issue during the rough winter months of January/Feb. Where temps where constantly in the -20s and I never plugged my car or had a block heater/pan heater. This was gone as temps got into -15C range.

i understand draining batteries on the cold weather, but I'm in So Cal, where 50F is cold. today was a 'chilly' 65F, i cant imagine the battery draining at the temperature.

One thing that I noticed was if you tend to leave the car in "standby" with the engine off but running stereo/vent on the car will override you in about 7-10 mins and shut off everything. But if you constantly do that then you could be straining your battery, is that the case with you? If not and you're not running any other electronics in the car or plugging stuff in then I would go visit the dealer.

i brought the car to the dealer today. they said the there was a malfunction with the parking brake. they ended up replacing the battery as a precaution.
dont ask me why a malfunction on the p-brake will cause the battery to discharge, i'm just glad the problem is gone. |

Actually the self draining grows with temperature. If its cold enough it doesn't drain at all.

Since my new F10 is just over 2 months old, I haven't (yet) had this problem.
However I had it a lot on my previous E60 5-series (530d M Sport). I brought it back a number to times to the dealer and they checked it out, but could never find any problems. They fully charged up the battery and it was OK for a few weeks, but then the problem re-occurred again and again. The software in the car was completely reloaded about 3 times, but this made no difference. The dealer then suggested that it might be due to the fact that most of my journeys were relatively short, but it happened even after a long run (150+ miles). The discharge happened even in hot weather - so I don't think it was solely due to the higher load on cold mornings. One thing that I did notice early on when we got the car was that the clock lost time very quickly. When I raised this with the dealer they said this was not unusual. This happened from day one, though the problem with the excessive discharge warning only started after about 2 years. However you could generally tell when the battery was giving problems as the clock was reset to zero, even before the discharge error came up. We sold the car when we got the F10, but never solved the problem as to why the battery kept discharging. |

I am having the exact problem as yours. The first time fix was to recharge the battery by the dealer (10 days ago) and the problem just came back today with same 'parking brake malfunction' message appears again.
Have to bring it in and hope the dealer will replace the battery this time. Quote:

My 2010 X5 used to give me the High Battery Discharge warning all the time! They reprogrammed something to fix the battery drain while in standby, fixed it for me.

Brought my car in for service. One of my complaints is the infamous “Increased Battery Discharge” problem. Just got a call from my advisor stating I left my headlamps on for two and half hours at one point. I said that’s impossible because I always have them set to “Auto”. Nevertheless, he said he “charged” the battery and that it appears to be fine now (which I don’t believe because since having the problem, I’ve gone on several 45+ minutes drives, which should have “charged” the battery, after which I was still experiencing the problem). ANYWAY, what I’d like to know is, hypothetically, if the headlamps were in the manual “on” position (which they were not), does the car automatically cut them off as a precaution after a certain amount of time? We have a Lexus that does so… Can't believe this bs. :|
