Lease buy out advise

Hi Everyone!

Looking for some advise on buying out a lease.

Lease details:
2013 BMW GT535XI Premium package
Current mileage ~ 35000km
End of lease: March 2017

Buy out price: $36500 CAD

If I buy it, I'll keep it for 4-5 years

So, questions:
  • is it a good idea to buy a Gran Turismo, considering they are not very popular in North America?
  • the buy out price seems to be high, I think FMV is ~31000K; what do you think?
  • what's the best strategy to negotiate the buy out?
  • should I get extended warranty?
  • there is not too much info on long term reliability I could find, can you help me here?

Thanks!

5GT is a fine car

Having a 5GT myself (N47N Diesel, RWD, RHD) since 2013, my 5GT has been very good since day 1, now 50k miles (not km), never had any trouble.

Fuel economy: My diesel 5GT isn't particular thirsty, however I have no idea about the petrol engine version. The 5GT car is already 2 tons weight, plus the x-drive and petrol V6 engine, perhaps it can be thirsty. The 20in Pirelli P-ZERO isn't cheap. If you are looking for an economical car, this one isn't likely to be one. It certainly has comfortable ride, even with 20in wheels.

The 5GT is rare, that isn't necessary a bad thing. I see more Porsche locally than the 5GT. The 5GT's next generation will be rebranded as 6GT, price will go up a lot as it becomes a 6-series.
