I'm looking into installing MMI Prime into my 2016 550i. There are a couple of vendor's selling the system with a big difference in price. From the literature it looks like they are the same system but I'd like to confirm. So, does anyone know if an MMI Prime Carplay Android System is the same unit regardless of the vendor?

In my experience they use exactly same hardware. I have bimmertech which has exact same hardware like the ones selling for about $250 on Amazon (which friend of my bought). Software on the 2 units is slightly different but the functionality seems to be the same. I used Apple Carplay and once carplay starts, they both look identical. So I'd say, save a lot of money and get the one from Amazon. I got Bimmertech because there was black friday deal with front view camera, and I guess I overpaid.

Bimmertech is highly touted especially for customer support but their system way more expensive, at this time. It was very helpful to learn what the hardware actually is and that they are essentially the same. Thanks for the advice
