Easiest to find a 530d, then 535d. Not sure there was a 530i ever in an F10, the 535i is rare. Don't buy a diesel unless you do enough miles. All the oily bits on 6 cylinder diesels are pretty reliable if you do the miles. Watch out for water leaks into the interior footwells from a failing grommet under the bonnet and/ or leaking membranes in the rear doors. Easily fixed.
iDrive can fail occasionally, happened to me, reckon on £1.5k to fix. Buying from a BMW dealer gives you a good warranty for 12 months but never assume they prepare the cars any better than your average under the arches dealer. BMW dealers will also fit crap ditchfinder tyres, for example. The quality of BMW dealers is a lottery. The family owned ones are generally far better than the corporates. All often (in my experience) rely on the customer to find the faults after purchase. So take a fine tooth comb. I used to offer my kids £5 for every fault they could find on a BMW AUC and they cost me hundreds but saved me thousands. Good luck, because you'll need it. |

Always negotiate an extra year's AUC warranty as part of the deal. Good solid car, the 535D but you should be doing the mileage. Look for adaptive suspension and pro nav as a must along with nice to have's
comfort seats sport auto hud camera digital cockpit etc. good luck with the search! |

I have all those things on mine and it makes it a great car. Completely agree about the extra year's warranty. It is an expensive thing to buy after the first year AUC warranty expires so negotiate this into the deal for ongoing piece of mind. For example, a failure of one of the expensive adaptive systems can cost £1000's to fix so you must have the warranty IMO.

You will find folk who've never had it will tell you that you don't need it and folk that have, without having experienced an F10 without it, will tell you it's wonderful. And then there's folk who have Adaptive Drive who'll tell you that's even better.
I didn't have VDC on my F10 520d, and I did have it on my F10 535d because I found the 520d too crashy over poor roads. The 535d is obviously more nose-heavy than the 520d but the overall ride quality in Comfort and especially Comfort+ in the 535d was a big improvement IMHO. I was so convinced by VDC that I specc'ed it again on my G30. HUD (which I also had on the 535d and liked so much it's also on my G30) & VDC is a rare combination. Suggest you have a look. |

I have a late 2016 535d with VDC, having previously had a 530d on 18" wheels but no VDC.
VDC is nice, and on sport the suspension is stiffened slightly over comfort, but its not light and day difference. I was perfectly happy with the ride on the 530d on smaller wheels/higher profile tyres. Nice to have VDC if it comes 'free' on a used car that someone else has paid for, but I wouldn't pay new money for it. Depends I suppose where and how you use the car. You don't really need it if you bowling up and down motorways mostly for instance? HUD I thought was probably a gimmick, before I actually used it. Really useful and I would say indispensable now. Looking straight ahead at sat nav directions when going through towns and busy areas is extremely useful. I also have the comfort seats which I would recommend, but hardly any used cars have it. The way the upper part of the seat back follows the contours of your spine is very comfortable to have. Also folding rear seats - a must have really yet also very rare. Why are they not standard. How else can you get an 8 foot long piece of MDF in the car?? |

VDC has its place, particularly if you want/need better comfort on poor roads. But to really get the body under control with decent handling across the modes, we do require Adaptive Drive. It is ARS, the 'active roll control' which sorts the body in both Comfort and Sport modes. |

Hi all,
Just quick update went to see the car yesterday 535d m sport. Car was perfect inside however exterior i wasnt too happy with. had scratches across the bonnet which they have said that they need to re-paint and soo many swirl mark across the whole body, bird crap damaged the boot paint work. Never experienced this from a dealer bought car. The sales guy been fantastic he pointed out a lot of the flaws as he wasnt happy selling the car in that condition. He said that they will look to paint protect the car as a gesture i have only put a deposit on the car therefore if i am not 100% happy with the vehicle i can get my money back. Any thoughts or feedback been much appreicated thanks |

I always think that if the don’t look after the bits you can see what hope for the rest of it you can’t?
Or ask a proper detailer to look at it to see if it is worth correcting the paint by them? |

- Comfort seats are best. Sport seats are also very good. The biggest drawback with both is the PU-coated dakota leather that does not breathe at all. I would look for vented seats primarily and would not care if they are comfort or sport. - Hud is very useful. - Camera ... mine is reading traffic signs, does it mostly correctly but not always. I'm happy to have because of adaptive headlights mostly. There are also a nightvision cameras that use IR. Rear view camera is not too useful. I mostly use sensors and mirrors. Digital cockpit is a gimmick! As long as you have hud, you don't need the digital displays. Some other features that deserve to be mentioned: - adaptive headlights, I like a lot that my car does not blind other drivers but still effectively illuminates the road and more. - adaptive/active cruise |
