Timing chain on n55 isn’t common to replace unless you’re doing overlapping work where it requires you to take off the timing chain.

In regards to what you should do. I would do all the gaskets that are accessible while the motor is out. So valve cover, rear main seal, oil pan, oil filter housing etc. Cleaning the Vanos solenoids as well with a cleaner could do no harm since it’s really easy to do even with the motor in (5 min job with engine out).

If you do the oil pan which you should 100 percent do by the way, while the pan is off, REPLACE THE ROD BEARINGS. It’s right under the oil pan and just requires you to take the chain off of the oil pump which is not much work. Make sure you replace the bearings and torque it to spec. It will save you in the long run.

^ everything above plus the oil pump. You don’t want it to fail down the road and loose an engine.
