Go for a test drive and bring the kids along. Strap on the car seats, and check it out. I fit in the back of the coupe just fine. I'm 5 foot 9 and still space left.

I have the E93 and 2 kids (4 and 2). While we use my wife's X5 for most of the day to day stuff, in the summer we go away for the weekend and on day drips with plenty of room. While it is not an SUV or large car, it is adequate for child seats. Also, the E93 does not have the side pillar, which really make it easier to get into the back seat if you put the windows down, and obviously even easier with the top down. I would not recommend one if it is your only car though.
I agree that you should take one on a long test drive and put the child seat(s) in there and see what you think. Ultimately it is up to you.

I have an E90 so it doesn't count but zero probs with a child seat in the back... not to mention loads of trunk space if we need to pack a stroller etc.
Now if I could just get my 2 year old daughter from kicking the back of my seat I'd be in great shape.

Blame it on the Melbourne Red...you need to have a calmer colour for the kids.

Very cute picture!!!!! I like the look of the coupe better and might try to get a test drive with the seats...although they are pretty anal about the M3 test drives.... |

I actually met a guy in Toronto that couldn't decide between the M-DCT and 6MT so I took him for a spin to help him out. Often much easier without an SA looking over your shoulder.

RevMMM,
Thanks for the advice...I take it your daughter in the pic is the two year old? Seems like she have enough room and quite happy to be in the M!!! The M must have the anchors right--for the baby seats? I find they make things much easier.. Interesting last reply, you said you took someone out for a drive to find out if its DCT or 6speed...and he picked 6sp....I have never driven the dct and was somewhat neutral regarding the issue ( have a 6spd C6 Vette right--no seats for the kids thus the change) perhaps I will do a serach to see what people think regarding the two trannys...obviously you like more traditional gear box!!! |

I was also somewhat neutral on the 6MT vs DCT issue, both have merits but utimately I like to have a clutch, and it has never bothered me in traffic. There are MANY threads on DCT vs 6MT, so I would do a bit of reading on the forum. If you start a new thread just put your flame suit on

There was a gent at our Toronto meet (the Blue E92 coupe), he had a coupe and had 2 car seats and said he had no issues at all with the set up. My cousin has a 335 coupe as his primary car and had a 1 year old with no problem. DO IT MAN!
Revmmm, great pic with your kid and the top down! |

coupe + car seat == not a big problem, just need to bend a bit when you put the kid in the seat. My kid likes to kick the back of the passenger seat too so normally I move the passenger seat far up so it's out of his reach
On my e46 M3 my kid really made a mess out of the passenger seat when he had his shoes on

Ah... the decision. I went through that 4 month back. : ) Ended up with the E90 M3. Mainly because the E92/E93 front seat wouldn't automatically move forward. I have a 3 month old now. So ease of moving the car seat in / out was an important criteria. The sunshades (side and back) are a great feature as well.
One thing that I wish was bigger is the trunk. With a stroller (base + bassinet), the trunk is essentially gone. Come to think of it... a Porsche sales person was trying to sell the 911 to me as a 'family and kid' friendly car. : ) I'd recommend to bring ur seats and try it out. For 4 year old, any one would work. For the 8 month, that's where your decision needs to be made IMO. Any choice you make, as long as its an M, you'll enjoy it. : ) BTW, this was a thread I read when I was doing my research. Thought u guys may enjoy it too. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/t...54339&f=48&h=0 |

Two kids here, no issues. I would wait in your case though until the younger one has a forward facing car seat.
The coupe has more space in the back than the sedan, only issue is a bit tougher to put the seats in.

Never thought of that before when I looked at the picture, but now that you mention it I agree it should have been a little tighter. The pic was taken in the summer when the family went for a day drive, so we had more clothes on the way out, but coming back in the afternoon we let them keep their summer clothes on and probably did not adjust the straps. Thanks for the advice!

I have a 08 E92 M3 and I have 2 kids (3 and 7).
My daughter (7) is behind me and my boy (3) has a seat behind the passenger. People think I'm a crazy dad, but I prefer to think that I'm a cool dad!!! No need to say that I drive more carefully with the kids. Vince |

There's plenty of guys on the Porsche 997 boards using the rear seats for their kids. I'd hope the E92/93 would be adequate as well. Besides, I'm sure the kids will love the ride!

revmmm, what brand child seat is that your daughter is sitting (cute girl by the way)?
My daughter is turning 1 year old at the end of the month and I'm trying to find a good car seat to install in my E90. Right now we mainly use the RDX when going out with the little one so if I ever want to use my ///M I'm going to have to find something that fits well and (hopefully) doesn't destroy the leather in the back seat.

http://www.elitecarseats.com/Maxi-Cosi-Priori.pro I got the blue color one and it's real nice. I don't like any of the US car seats - Britax, etc. This is nice and simple. It also reclines well in the forward facing position. Euro seat for Euro car! |
