Anyone noticed difference of doors?

Has anyone noticed the difference of the interior between the driver and passenger doors?

Is this a safety feature, not to have one? Why this difference?

So you can get to the controls on the driver side? The driver side has the mirror controls and all 4 windows (plus the combo button). I think the loop handle would get in the way...although it looks nice

I guess that's the case. An E85/86 hasn't that many control buttons, so a door handle is no problem. The E89 has besides the mirror controls 9 buttons.

it is exactly the same in other bmw models, series 3 coup etc..

No the 1 has handles on both driver and pass sides.

the driver has a steering wheel to hold on to. the put the handle in the passenger seat as an "oh shit" handle to grab on to when you're blistering through a turn
