I-Pod Questions
In anticipation to getting my 535 in a couple of weeks, am thinking about the I-Pod I want to use. I have a 30G (model before the touch) that I use for travel and want to get another one that stays with the car. So here are some questions that I would like to ask:
1) Are we limited on how big an I-Pod is used in the car? In other words, the larger the storage, the slower it might interact with the car? 2) Will the new Nano work? I'm not sure if it uses the traditional cable as do the other I-Pods...if it doesn't, then that answers that question. Any other suggestions? Thanks Last edited by ghueser; 10-11-2010 at 07:14 AM.. |

1) Don't know of any limits on the size of the iPod...
2) Yes, the new Nano works. I just took delivery of my M3 with the combox and have purchased a new 16 Gb Nano to leave in the center console, works fine. The displaying of album art is pretty cool as well. 3) Don't know for sure but if the concerns over lawsuits keep us in the U.S. from being able to roll up windows and close the sunroof by holding the lock button then I seriously doubt we have video capability. I know on the E60 we did not get that while it was available in Europe and other parts of the world... Edit: And yes, the new Nano uses the same generic Apple cable and connector but with the new combox set-up, you use the Apple cable and not the "Y" cable from BMW...

1) I noticed on a car I test drove the iDrive would take a few seconds to load every batch of "folders" being the artists on my 32GB (25GB filled with music) iPhone. I'm not sure the new cars with the all-new TCU are different. But it wasn't a big deal anyway.
2) Edit: response removed due to confirmation from kscarrol. 3) I don't think it will play videos of an iPod, but I'll check soon. I know for sure that if it does play, it will be parked only. |

+1 While riding my triathlon bike on July 5, 2009 I was struck by a car going 55 mph when the elderly woman driver was distracted by dogs in the cabin. 3 weeks in the hospital. 7 months off work. Developed DVT after the first operation. And I'll have serious medical issues the rest of my life. I'll never be able to run again. Walking is quite painful. Robust back pain wakes me up in the middle of the night. Getting run over changed my professional life and avocation life forever. All because some a$$hole was distracted, kinda of like watching movies on an iPod while driving.

Thanks for the feedback. I should clarify that watching really isn't watching, since the ipod is on the console, and on very remote trips.....but you all bring up good points and that practice will stop.

I guess you mean you can stream from your ipod ? I tried play podcast videos and mine only did audio and the cover picture, not the video. Am I doing something wrong ? I don't have the rear entertainment screen tho. |

My response: And people in Atlanta drive with their left hand on the phone to their right ear while listening to loud rap music. A person driving a brand-new 5-series watching (or listening) to a movie scares me a lot less than the morons I see on a regular basis, including the one last week with a Puerto Rican flag hanging in their car who nearly ran me off the road - twice. Or people with kids not in car seats driving beat-up Toyota Corollas. |
