UK car insurance ... recommendations

I am collecting my 520d Auto/Sport, M Sport mid-November. I have two minor insurance claims (~1k GBP each) both in 2009, on my work's group policy, which is being dropped at the end of this year. From January 2011 I need to arrange my own insurance. I am in my mid 30's.

With a £500 excess, I have quotes in the region of 950 GBP to 1k GBP. I am ok with a 1k GBP excess, if insurers offer this.

Can anyone recommend an insurer in the UK?

Cheapest for me was BMW insurance, 38years old and one claim last year when I hit a badger.

Cheapest for me was ESure £450! Bargin! :-) I'm 36 years old, 8years no claims (touches wood)
and includes my younger partner.

Cheapest for me was Tesco, where I was with them with my previous Non-BMW. Tesco quote for my 520d S Auto was £450. I am 35 with 7 years NCB (drives 17+ years but only 3+ UK full license). Never met with any sort of accident - Bless Me

But I went with BMW for £640.00 (£500 excess) for the added benefits over Tesco - It may sound stupid but this is my very first BMW and I wanted to have it in good hands (hopefully)

Try Sheela's wheels and Halifax insurance, they have quoted me quite similar figures to Tesco's.

Tesco tends to beat others, so make sure you enter a Club Card number when request a quote, that reduce your premium considerably.

Note: One good practice I do almost always, I do keep a record of the date, time and the name of the agent I spoke to (I always get an online quote and double check that over the phone). This has saved me a fortune so far by not paying penalties and admin fees. Every insurer is trying to pick your pocket so don't give them a chance and always stick to the original discussion you had and ask them to listen to the calls if they don't agree.
