F10 550i vs 2007 M6 ?
hey i need some inputs right i thinking about getting an 550i with options about 70k but today i came across 2007 M6, 20k mileage and under 60k for it. Which car do you guys think would you pick and why. (I know the different cars, power wise, space 2dr vs 4dr etc) i just asking for some options if you were in the same situations and why would you get which ever one?
thanx |

To me the biggest difference would be in the ride quality. Nice cushy comfortable 5 versus stiffly sprung, low to the ground 6. Think NJ potholes.
Also the trunk in the 5 is cavernous and not so much in the M6. There's also maintenance and repair issues, which are not cheap in an M. And resale. Especially if the M6 has the SMG, which is widely regarded as a very expensive item to repair. Even a clutch job will run into the thousands, or so I hear.

If you can cope with 9 MPG then go with the M6, I could not live with it and the small tank. Got shot and glad of it.

Are you keeping your M3 or replacing it? If you're keeping it, perhaps the 550i is a better choice since it's more of a difference compared to your M3. On the other hand, if you're replacing the M3, then you need to think about whether you want a car that's similar to your M3 (in some sense) or completely different (in a more luxurious/comfortable/high-tech sense).

Someone much smarter then me could probably find the numbers but gut feeling is: I think you would be suprised just how fast the F10 550 is in relation to the M6.
Besides its marketed speed, the M6 has nothing else to compare to it.

Good points, I found the M6 lacking in low down grunt ( unlike the 550i m sport will have) and when the M6 hits the sweet spot I was into licence loosing speeds, so not good for pleasure driving IMO.

I would do the F10 and upgrade the software for mor HP. It will be very close to the M6 in terms of speed and acceleration.

Definitely go with the F10. You'll start kicking yourself once the new M6 comes out. Go with the new F10 and enjoy having a "new car" for the next 7 years.

The only thing about buying a second hand M6 is that the depreciation has been paid for by the previous owner. Buying a new F10 means you take the big hit with depreciation. That said, if you bought the new car (rather than leasing), then just hold on to it for 7 years or so and you'll be okay (assuming the TCO on these cars isn't too high.)
But aside from economics, you also have to drive and live with what you really want, and that doesn't always make financial sense. And since you already made your decision, congrats on the new ride. |

Unless you have Sabine-like skillz, the 8-speed 550i will out run a manual M6 in 99.99% of real-life circumstances.
