2011 Changes and Price Increase!

I was talking to a dealer last week who informed me that they had just received notification through at the start of the week of a price increase from January but additional equipment as standard and he mentioned heated seats.

He also confirmed that there will likely be the new 260PS/560NM 3.0diesel engine upgrade going in as in the new X3 and also the automatic transmission will gain stop/start technology. He said that more information was to follow - initial details sketchy.

Anyone got any more info?

Heard similar stories in my dealership, talk of €2k increase in March after the rush for 11 number plates is over.
They need to start telling customers soon as they are now taking orders for February delivery with no January delivery slots left.
He did not mention any additional spec. Possibly BMW Ireland are waiting for the outcome of the budget before deciding on pricing strategy (VAT/VRT increases?).

I've been hearing this (ie €2k increase) at my local dealership since last Sept but I put it down to them wanting to encourage me NOT to wait for 1st Jan - That was never going to happen as the registration year is so key to the trade in value in Ireland.

January is such a bad month to be picking up a shiny new car of any make as the roads are in such bad and dirty condition....but I still can't wait for mine! It should be at the dealership just before Christmas so I might pop down to have a look (it's about 50 miles away).

Really - I'm told mine is week 50 and should be available around the same time...??

Looks like we've all made deals for early Jan pick-up. I'm waiting on a 520D SE Sport Auto in Deep Sea Blue and Oyster Black with 18'' 328 rims, Sports Seats, HiFI Pro, Ambient, Heated Seats, USB, Sports Steering Wheel. It's a straight cash sale. What will happen if there is a VAT/VRT increase in the budget in a few weeks? Do I have to pick up the tab or does the deal stick as agreed? What if there's a VRT/VAT reduction ( not likely)?

I looked through the contract I signed and the VAT/VRT increase is paid by the customer. I would haggle based on my trade-in being worth Marginally more. I am getting a 520d M-Sport, sport Auto, Space grey, Oyster/Black, dark Ash wood, ambient, USB, Boot Spoiler.

Yip, mine will be in the dealers yard over Christmas. I think it lands in Dublin in early December.

Yes, We have a registration system in Ireland which drives us towards registering the vehicle in the first few months of the year.
My dealer has 110 cars sold for January delivery and builds the stock up in December for release during January.

that's interesting....i've been delaying ordering a 535D F11 M-Sport and had noticed that some brokers i was talking to have removed heated front seats from their online configurators (option is still on BMW's) which may be because they know that cars built Jan 2011 onwards will have this options as standard???

if BMW throw in a few more options as standard might offset the ridiculous UK VAT rise a bit !!!!!!

My dealer has now moved to absorb the VAT increase on cars delivered before the end of February (something that I had to bargain hard for when I ordered in October, but which turned out to be unnecessary). I guess they want to stop people holding off ordering.

I noticed in the last week that the Auto & Sport Auto prices had increased by about £100 compared to October on the BMW Configurator, so there appears to be some small adjustments taking place already.

Yep mine is due build week 50 so jan 1st registration for me, NO VAT increase till 4th Jan 2011 in the UK, then everything is up to 20% from 17.5%
I will not be paying the extra if the car is late I have that guarantee.

Ordered my 535 Xdrive today and was speaking to the dealership general manager. He was not aware of any January 1 changes, so perhaps this does not apply in US?

Well NO VAT means NO increase for you, as VAT in the UK will upped too 20% in january 2011.

Not surprised by the new engine specs & start/stop tech- the redesigned Audi A6 is coming out in Spring and BMW will want the new 5er to be as fresh as possible to fight the new A6.

Dom- given you're in a straight cash deal as I am, do you mind if i ask what discount you got from the dealer. I got 4% and am struggling to get an umbrella from the tight fukrs- Was worn out with the deal so hope 4 is a good cut. They gave me the spiel about their margin being 5%.

I haggled for two prices as I'll try to sell my trade in privately before Jan - Best discount was just under 4% so I'd say you did well.

My dealer told me that their margin is in two parts - An up front discount (possibly 5%) but with a later part that kicks in after some time... based on other factors like the number of training days attended and customer satisfaction levels.

Promise to give them top marks on the survey and see if that improves the discount/trade in allowance!

Yeah, sales manager told me to get the 4% I'd have to promise to give 100% satisfaction rating on survey. No probs with that.

I did the deal in September after I sold my last car. The BM came to about 50k. I got 1,500 off and the loan of a car til January. If I had hadn't wanted the loan of a car I could have had 2,000 off. That's 4%. Same as you. It was the best I could get and I tried all ovr. Pity all us Irish buyers couldn't have got together and negotiated a bulk purchase deal. These days every bit helps.
