F11 electric opening tailgate
Hi All
Since new it has always irritated me that if I open the tailgate of my F11 (which has electric closing function) using the door handle (and not the key) I literally have to push it up - the friction is that great. I assumed that this was just a "feature" of opening manually. However the other day, I saw an X6 owner open the tailgate using the handle and it glided open under it's own power. Is this how my F11 should work too? Is there a setting I have to enable or is this just an X6 only feature deliberately missing from the F11? Sorry being lazy haven't checked the manual yet. |

I think if you are opening it manually, just manually release the lever and quickly let it go. It will glide up on its own power.
I tried to manually open my F10 boot like you when I first got the car, manually pushing up the boot and experienced the same friction....trick is to just release the lever and let the electric tailgate do its stuff. |

Once you press the tailgate release handle the mechanism will then automatically open the tailgate fully . If you try and assist the opening of the tailgate by hand the opening process will stop immediately. Presumably the mechanism senses any outside force and switches off as a safety precaution. Although you can force the tailgate up by hand as you have been doing, it requires a fair amount of force which suggests that it's not designed to be operated that way other than in an emergency.
