Newbie from India
Sold my 2007 E90 325i, was giving me a tough time, whole loads of issues with the car electronics. Was in the service station more than on the road.
Got myself the new F10 525d non m-sport (because it's not available in my country, unfortunately ) it's black with cinnamon brown interior. Read a lot about the car on the threads here, and decided to go with this particular model. Thanks for the help everyone here. And now i can also contribute to the forum with my own f10. Love the color, but it's just a massive pain in the a** to maintain here in India. Love the ride comfort in front and in the back as well, which is very much required here with the potholes and the uneven roads. this model comes with rear seat entertainment as standard, though hasn't been used at all till now. Wish it had the variable suspension like the 530d. We don't even have it as an option as these cars are in-stock as per the dealers customizations. The 530d was not available for next three weeks and i needed the car the same day so picked up this one. I don't regret the decision in anyway. A pic of my latest addition to the garage. |

And a very warm hello from your neighbor and congrats on the acquisition! Its good to read your positive comments especially about the ride quality despite the road conditions which I'm sure we share, and I was a little apprehensive about before pulling the trigger. I would love to know more about the other options you have in your vehicle and your take on them. Also, how do you feel about the diesel engine coming from a petrol?

I have the anthracite finleine interior trim, 7" on-board monitor and two 8.2" rear seat monitors, electric glass-roof, lumbar support seats, USB interface, multifunctional steering wheel, Bluetooth. All the options in this car came pre-selected by the dealer himself, as the diesel f10's are assembled in a plant here in the country itself. So no choice but to pick up whatever you get, the only choice you do get is for the exterior paint. I wanted cinnamon brown interior, so that was restricted with exterior paints of, white, grey and black only. The petrol motor was much more fun in terms of driving but for everyday use the diesel is much more efficient. Especially when my daily running is a lot. My car has already done 5000km+ in just two months. Even when i don't take it much on the long routes. I use other cars for highway driving. Thanks. Thanks. The registration plates are temporary, as it says on the plates itself. Will get the permanent ones by this week. |

Quite interesting to see that in India, the standard bundle is quite high, especially rear seat monitors. Congrats on your new toy or should I say working tool! |

Its a little odd that for a car that is assembled within India they don't offer customization options for local customers, a car like the F10 should be totally built to order! Even though your car appears to have some of the high-end options as standard. Since your car is not imported but locally assembled, did you get it at a good price or is it still very expensive? I know Mercedes has a local assembly plant in Pune as well, are the Bimmers competently priced? I am paying an arm and a leg for mine and that too in Euro, which is strengthening day by day against a weak Pakistani Rupee. I dread the value assessment day at Customs when the car arrives!

The rear seat monitors are available in 530d and 525d. Diesel cars a huge hit in India, which is why they give a lot of standard options on them. Quote:
So, these cars don't come cheap for us, |

Well the import duty structure seems similar, ours is also around 115% for petrol engines upto 1800cc but shoots up to over 200%+ if you go for a bigger engine. For diesel, it shoots up for engines bigger than 2000cc and above so that basically leaves out 525d or 530d.
My entry-level 520d is costing me over $130k but admittedly I did select a lot of options. The basic vehicle is priced around $85k but that is just the bare-bones car, no options not even auto transmission. I would definitely have chosen the 530i or 535i but just the 535i starts around $130k, basic. Add the options and it was gonna cost me $165k. That was beyond my budget but I hope to enjoy the 520d as much as I can.

One of my favorite features of new BMW's is the white rings. And in the 5-series they just look even better with the orange light on the top corner. |

Hate it like I've never hated anything before! I placed the order in Dec 2011 so you can imagine how difficult these last few months have been for me but the wait is almost over, I hope to get the car sometime in early April. Its just a month away, thats what I keep telling myself now.
You bet there will be a lot of photos, and can't wait to see yours too.

Wanted to know, if i could change the smaller screen on the dash with the larger ones. I can't use GPS if i have this screen, it only works with the bigger one. That's what sales executive told me.
Sorry for the bad picture quality, clicked form my phone. |
