1st Oil change?
I have followed BMW's recommended oil service intervals in my prior leased E60's, but since I purchased my new F10 550i, I am thinking about breaking up the BMW oil service intervals, and replacing oil/filter on my nickle half thru interval cycles ,( about every 6500-7000 miles).
I plan on keeping this car 100K miles +, and just have never bought off on running oil/filter for anything more than 7500 miles. I know oil technology has come a long way, wasnt 10 years ago I changed my oil every 3000 miles or so. But, I also am considering in changing the oil right after break in period, at 1500-2000 miles. Just passed 1500 miles today, think I am going to do this next week. Always used to do this prior cars that I owned. What are you experts doing?

1000 miles - German Castrol & BMW Filter (me)
4000 miles - German Castrol & BMW Filter (me) 8300 miles - BMW Oil & Filter (dealer free 1 year low mileage oil change) DIY Oil Change F10 5-series (N55 motor) I am a firm believer of early and often for the break-in/ 1st year of the car. After this I'm looking at 5-7500 miles, or roughly once a year. Most of my driving is city, short trips.

Had the oil and filters changed after 26.000 kms (it's a diesel). That is exactly like the F10's motor management instructed me.
I was shocked when I saw the invoice though, they charged me 410 EUR (= 580 USD) for it , including about 160 EUR for the 7 liters 5w30 oil. Or shall I say they plan to charge me 410 EUR. Because I think it's outrageous and will have a chat with my dealer. So, what do you guys pay for this service?

50 USD. I do it in my garage. You can buy the supplies and take it to a mechanic. I wouldn't pay more than $100

Two different answers: for the non-US owners above, maintenance is not included. For the US owners, the maintenance that is included doesn't happen often enough for them, so they have to pay for the oil changes they want in between the scheduled ones.

Only in the States, its a big world out there and warranties aren't so "friendly".
Be thankful for the duration and scope of the BMWNA warranties (and sales price). Even for BMWNA owners, correct me if I am wrong, but I think only the recommended maintenance is free.

Agreed on the oil change, we have seen this debate play out before on this forum, much like the fuel topic.

Do BMW sell 'Service Inclusive' in The Netherlands ? In Ireland the basic one is €400, good value if you plan to keep the car more than 2 years.(Valid for 5 years or 100,000 km whichever comes first) Here's what is included..

I will ask my dealer if they're offering something similar in NL.

I recently bought 20 litres (4 containers of 5 litres each) of Fuchs synthetic that's approved for Mercedes diesels and paid about $130 (don't know what that is in Euros).I believe that Fuchs is a European brand so I would think it would be even cheaper there.Of course our taxes aren't nearly as high as yours.

yes, but only at specified service intervals based on your driving style, generally every 11-13,000 miles. Thats crazy too long in my book, regardless of the improvements in synthetic oil technology

In the USA, the dealer will change your oil one calender year after delivery without resetting the interval computer. Even if you are below the 15k miles. However, you have to ask for it, the car wont do it for you.

Turbo engines love oil, I am going to make sure they're fed a fresh supply. My N.A. vehicles are running synthetic as well, oil change intervals at 7500.

My "change engine oil" reminder came on this weekend at exactly 7500 miles and 9 months of ownership. I called the dealer for an appointment and they even offered a loaner for the day. It appears that some posters are getting the notice at later mileages and time of ownership. Does this mean that i am driving mine harder or faster? BTW it has not used a drop of oil so far.
