However, they only do it to their own customers.
Therefore, myself and everyone I know are customers of PA or CT toll-way authority, and we are just permanently roaming through NJ.

We are so far down the rabbit hole of inattentive driving and people not following the law that I simply don't care about someone's "freedom" to break the law and speed at this point. It doesn't supersede people's right to not be killed by a car.

Speeding is not inattentive driving. Inattentive driving is just simply, stupidity. Traffic cameras can just watch stupidly, not prevent it.

These New Speed Cameras Still Catch You Even If You Slow Downhttps://www.autoblog.com/news/these-...-you-slow-down

It is also worth noting that the ticket is issued to the vehicle’s registered owner, not necessarily to the person driving at the time of the violation. That raises a broader concern seen in other camera-enforcement cases: whether the burden should instead fall on the government to identify the driver, rather than defaulting liability to the registered owner

This really needs to be tested in court. So you get car jacked and the thief has a high speed police chase and you get a ticket in the mail?

Judge Says Red-Light Camera Tickets May Be Unconstitutional

Steven P. DeLuca argued that the government should be responsible for proving who was driving at the time of the violation, rather than placing that burden on the vehicle owner.

Looking ahead, AI could expand the role of automated enforcement even further. With police officers unable to monitor every intersection, AI-powered traffic cameras are already being deployed to detect multiple violations automatically, with some systems operating in places like Dallas. If these technologies can more accurately identify drivers, they may help address some of the legal concerns raised in cases like the recent Florida ruling.

Had this happen to a friend of mine. She lives in Central Virginia and drives 8 miles round trip daily to her job. She received a speeding ticket in the mail from a municipality in Maryland over 125 miles away. The ticket was time stamped at 7:30 AM on a Thursday when she was at school preparing to teach for the day.

I stepped in to get the ticket rescinded. It was clear by the photos and video the car was not hers and the license plate image was not clear enough to be read correctly. The machine reader just guessed at the best possible plate and issued a ticket. Only until one requests a human review the license plate image is there a chance to find an error in the automated machine-read system. The image in the speeding ticket file (reviewable online) showed a RAV4 SUV, when my friend drives a Mazda product. Complete and utter BS. But we lemmings let it happen. NO KINGS!

A dozen or so years ago there was an average speed monitoring toll road I thought was in Utah or some such place, and because they had this computerized system they reduced manned enforcement in the area.

In any event, soon there were complaints of supercars running high speeds on it. After some investigation they determined some drivers were using the tollroad to do top speed runs then just parking before the last toll and waiting until their average fell under the posted limit. It was also a good time to put their license plates back on.

Do you have demerit points where you live? Points applied to your record for each ticket you get? When you reach so many points they remove your drivers permit for a time? We do but they are only applied if the ticket is administered by a police officer, the photo radar tickets didn’t count.

I don’t think I’m rich, I but have enough money so that all Photo radar tickets were to me was an annoyance, not a deterrent of any kind to me speeding.
I view them as speeding tax, and I am happy to pay the tax for the privilege of speeding when I want to.

Should the rich get to do something everyone else can’t?

One of the best police pull-overs I ever witnessed was on the Turnpike.

A dude in a GTI was running south-bound around 90 MPH in the center lanes. He passed a marked NJ Statie who was in the outer truck lanes. No way the GTI driver didn't see the State Trooper because the Trooper was not bunched up in a group of cars (all of us in the center lanes were pacing behind the Trooper). The Trooper paced the GTI for about a 1/2-mile. Then the Trooper made the best police driving move I've ever seen; without even slowing down and smooth as silk, he pulled into the center lanes through a gap in the Jersey Wall, lit up the GTI and pulled him over.

I guess the GTI didn't think the State Trooper could get to him since he was in the center lanes and the LEO was in the truck lanes.

The GTI driver also didn't know the first rule of braking traffic laws, "Police have radios", followed by the second rule, "Police have tasers and guns", followed but the third rule, "Police have bad days too".

Ironically, around here it's the minivans, lifted trucks, and SUVs driving at triple-digits on every freeway/tollway.

And specific to the New Jersey Turnpike... the State Troopers are trained to drive through the Jersey barriers! And they are effing good at it too.

They're going to be the same ones who will be confused at how we got here when we're surveilled the way Chinese people are.

I think you can have this mindset and also not want mass surveillance. Goes right back to the point someone made about not wanting people in vehicular deaths. You can speed (faster than the set limit) and drive smartly and safely. Those things can be true at the same time.

Punishing all for the acts of few. Though the dumb few are growing in numbers because we have made it so easy to get by on this planet.
