New F10 on the way - BT/Media advice please
Hi guys
New to the F10 forum after trading in my 325d e92. New (to me) F10 in Sophisto Grey is arriving next week - its 1 year old, built Jan 2014. Pretty clued up on most parts of it, but I am struggling to get my head around the media/BT spec and what is can/can't do. Here is the (i think) relevant parts of the VO:
Im sure that this has been covered to death, but can someone briefly sum up what I can do? can I stream audio from the phone with, say, spotify, or do i even need to if I can use the spotify app on the iDrive system itself? Will I have the NBT HU and can i/should i code 6NS instead of 6NH? Thanks for your help! |

Also I cannot see on the VO any reference to xenons and strangely i didn't check this before. I believe this is a LCI model, does that mean it has xenons as standard?

Hi. You should be able to play Spotify through iDrive if you get the right media adapter. You can check which one you need on www.bmw.com/bluetooth
Just enter your cars VIN number and which phone you have |

ok so you need the adapter to use the app properly, but I don't need 6NS to stream audio over bluetooth then? I've read elsewhere that you can't stream with 6NH

Please see the 2014 F10 5 Series Sedan Ordering Guide (and Pricing guide) for your reference:
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=697460 http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=842774 In 550i x Drive section you will find the most Standard Options and Packages (e.g. see ZEC) and that you may need. The options related to media have indeed code 6xx, also you can make sure about 522 Xenon headlights, 524 Adaptive light control and whatever else you need. Maybe think about Adaptive LED headlights (ZLP Package) - this is just another level of technology and quite impossible to be retrofitted due to complexity+cost. Talk to your dealer about what hardware (like Combox, selected audio system, wiring harness for BT/handsfree etc.) you should have factory ordered. The software options are much easier and cheaper to be retrofitted later upon request. |

You will have - xenon - NBT You should be able to code 6NS instead of 6NH. I am going to do that on a car sometime this month of next month. HTH.

I think you need 6NS to stream music via bluetooth.

No, you can Bluetooth stream music without 6NS Extended Bluetooth as long as you have Pro Nav. All Extended Bluetooth gives you is the phone cradle.

Do you mean code 6ns instead of 6nh? As it stands it seems I don't need 6ns to do what I want but if I can code it anyway then I will probably do it. Hopefully it's quite straightforward.

Surely, hardware will not be there such as second mic and phone cradle. But you will have others software related features enabled.

Whilst you can indeed stream music from Spotify over bluetooth and should be able to skip tracks, you will not be able to access Spotify playlists from the car. This functionality is limited to iTunes playlists only.
So you will need to open Spotify on your phone, select the playlist and hear it through the car. Likewise you can skip tracks, change volume and see track info (but not album art) on the screen but if you want a different playlist you will need to go back to the phone to do it. This is a phone limitation not a car one |

thanks, thats not a problem as thats how I do it now, and I have a charging cradle for the phone anyway. I might reinstall this cradle in the new car with the USB going to the armrest area, which should then give me full apps access if I understand correctly

Yes, after your cradle is properly integrated into the system using the on-board harness that connects the head unit, combox, microphone and loudspeakers, and the functional option is coded.

I have f10 lci with pro nav and you can install the BMW Connected app on your smart phone and install the new Spotify app on connected drive. Then with the phone plugged in to USB you can access all features of Spotify via I drive.
