congrats man, for getting your new KW V3. i know the KW V3 will be way better than the H&R springs. but what's your feedback on the H&R? I wanna hold on the coilovers switching and just do the H&R for the time being.

Rims from Japan usually cost $700-$900 per piece or even more for brands like Neez. Are you satisfied with the quality of your 20inch rims? |

The JWL you see stamped is probably some kind of quality assurance thing from what I've read. |

You may be right about the quality assurance stamp -- I just can't believe how the looks of the car have drastically changed with the 20"rims and lowering compared to the stock M-sport wheels and tires -- also, no more bounce or floating in the front and the steering feels much tighter. Since this is my first time lowering, I'm hoping for normal tire wear -- my dealer's shop foreman freaked out when I told him I lowered it. He went into this big story about how difficult it is to align the 5 series comparing it to geometry experiment. He did tell me how great it looked though. I guess I can always put the stock springs back on, but once I've seen it and driven it lowered, I don't know if I can go back.

Did you get the springs made specifically for the 550i? It is my understanding that they are not available until April (or perhaps just out of stock, but I was under the impression they have not been released yet by H&R for the 550i). Might explain why you think the front seems too low for your taste being that the motor is heavier in the 550i (I would assume) and may be the only reason for different springs. RD Sport has some fine print about only BMW or RD Sport authorized shop doing the install on "vehicles with active suspension option code 221" due to electronic alignment and/or programing may be required to restore active suspension settings -Wondering if this is what your tech at BMW was talking about. RD Sport also list a more expensive set of springs for the adaptive drive which does not make sense, but nothing on their website about different springs for the 550i (although I am being told they do have springs specific to the 550i) Regardless, your car looks great. I have a black 550i too and these are my spring woes so for now I might just throw the wheels on and see what pans out in the way of springs over the next month and look more into this electronic alignment and programing. I am going to hate that fender gap in the meantime (especially with new 20's and lower profile tires). Simple mods are never simple. |

Very sweet! The F10 is one car that definitely needs to be lowered to look right. At the moment mine looks like an SUV!

My BMW tech guy was talking about how difficult the rear is to align without electronic help, but my tire shop said that everything looked fine, and the lowering didn't even move the alignment but a small amount. He's a friend of mine and knows his stuff. Alan, at **********s.com is a BMW suspension guru, and he only recommends H&R. To me, the RD springs are way too expensive and the ride is still to high. I agree with you, I couldn't stand my car sitting that high. I've never seen a BMW sitting that high with a sport suspension. It must be that way because of the adjustable suspension. I'm getting used to my car's front end now and am starting to like it. I think it's because it's such a contrast from how high it was sitting. Now, it looks more like my 08 550 M-sport's suspension. It has completely changed the way the car drives -- much more composed, no more bounce in the front end on acceleration and braking -- and it's amazing that it rides smoother and less jittery with lowering springs, 20"wheels and lower profile tires than the stock suspension and wheels with run flats. I couldn't imagine going back to the stock springs. Let me know what you decide and show some pics! |

My wife managed to snag (probably the last set in stock in the country) a set specific for the 550i. So I am happy to be getting mine installed next week instead of April.
So here is the car awaiting a drop in the (now much shorter) meantime: Loving the Forgestar (and I am coming from HRE 890R's FWIW to others looking at Forgestar)... http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=494077 Also Kudos to the guys at SonicMS as always!. |

No, I don't have any spacers on the 20s. The 19s of the same style have to have spacers though. I'll have to take a few more pics now that it's settled and post them.
