Used 1M market outlook

I got in the game too late and was not able to get a new 1M. I am convinced that this is the car for me. I would much prefer a brand new car, but have essentially lost hope of getting an allocation. Also, I am not willing to pay over msrp for a new one, just doesn't fit in my budget.

That said, what are peoples opinions on when the used market will appear? I am assuming most people on here will be holding onto theirs for a while. I want buy my next car in the next few months. Basically I would like to start a discussion on when they will appear and how much they will be advertised for.

I want the 1m so bad I can't describe it. If I can't get one I may look to other options but I don't think there is anything out there that will make me happy like the 1M.

Thanks in advance for any insight/speculation.

I know they have, I have been trolling this forum like its my job the past 2 months. Like I said in my post, I am not willing to pay 5k+ over msrp. That said I would be willing to pay ~msrp for a lightly used 1m.

Give it time. I suspect they will depreciate, like almost all cars, although maybe not as much as a lot of cars. In time, when they get to the right age to be collectible, and we're all driving hydrogen/bean/algae powered turds, they'll probably appreciate again. There ought to be a decent window in there, to find good deals. It just won't be soon. Maybe when the leases start to run out.

The trick will trying to find one that hasn't been modded to death. Those are the first guys to sell. Those who bought outright and then got bored.

Second wave will be the expired leases, but then you're looking at least two years out.

Stay on the forum, some guys here have had financing or change of life situations and have offered their cars to fellow members. something could crop up and you still might be able to get one. You never know.

I suspect that there are few people that just get the latest new thing also and as soon as something new comes out, they will let theirs go. The one thing working against you is that hardly anyone is leasing so I doubt there will be a ton of 1Ms in three years, but you will find them. Keep on the forum. I know if I was going to sell my car, I would let the forum know first.

Good luck.

Might have to, doubtful that you'll see many 1M's on the used market around that time, esp ones that aren't marked up. The last of the ordered cars should be making their way to their new owners around then.

It couldn't hurt to look for a 1M, I just don't know if the buzz will have died down enough for the prices to have come down. It depends on how many people who missed the new ones are waiting to pounce on the used ones.

Speculators will be the first to sell, then those who bought outright as a toy and get easily bored, then the leased cars will show up. Sprinkle in the standard amount of sales that a lifestyle change forces and there's your used market.

A lot of BMW's are leased. Assuming a decent number of 1M's are leased, you may see quite a few showing up at expiration time. Especially if there is strong competition in the same market.

Ill probably be one of the firsts to sell out of most on this forum lol. Probably within 6-12 months. Have my eyes already on a few more cars.

Also depends how well they hold their value though. If they hold their value ill sell. If they don't than ill keep it and eventually turn it into my DD

Saw one for sale last week on autotrader brand new for $44k. Some dealer in Nebraska. Sounded too good to be true but that's what it said. Actually there were several available under $50k. Of course not the same dealer

i personally know of 2 1Ms that will be for sale with extremely low miles in the coming months. if i know of 2, there must be many many more out there if you're attentive and a little patient. luckily, (or unluckily for some other people) i don;t see this being a car that succeeds in the speculative market. i doubt either of the 2 i know of will sell above MSRP (owners weren't looking for profits).

That doesn't make any sense. If the market is willing to pay over MSRP for a used car (remains to be seen) then why would anyone in their right mind not sell it for the market price?

autotrader isn't really reliable. The stupid internet sales in these dealerships automatically list up the cars to auto trader with the msrp but than when you call it's either already sold or is way above msrp.

Honestly depends on how much money they have and how quickly they want to sell. I know of someone who sold a viper ACR for wayyyyyyy under what he could have gotten for it just to sell it quickly. Also many i see many people who have tons of $$ flip cars at cheap prices just to get rid of them.

Im assuming most if not all 1Ms are bought though. The residual that bmw is giving is horrrrrrible. Honestly only an idiot would pay more money to lease the 1M than to just buy it.

Ive talked to a few big dealers that have sold 5-6 1Ms and they all told me they were either bought in cash or financed.

I don't believe 1Ms are leased in big numbers, the rates are terrible. I wouldn't count on lease returns. I believe most people are purchasing 1Ms outright.
